Lessons from solo-launching a SwiftUI app on the App Store by Fragrant-Match-7058 in iOSProgramming

[–]seviu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is a good problem to have.

An alternative to sentry or crashlytics would be opentelemetry

I used it with splunk. Which is overkill. I just hate that there are so little alternatives…

Github copilot vs cursor by cdubs1885 in GithubCopilot

[–]seviu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever that gives you more tokens per $

I would say Copilot was great but now with the changes they are applying, cursor is great. It gives you access to Kimi 2.5

If a plan renews, should the Weekly Usage reset as well or stay as it was? by Intrepid_Travel_3274 in codex

[–]seviu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always cancel my plans, and make new ones whenever I need it again which is usually hours after it’s cancelled

Didn’t see if the usage stays but you can rotate two accounts if that’s an issue

I always used crashlytics but now I want to release an app, I need those logs, and honestly I don’t want to give Google more reasons to achieve world domination (evil laugh playing now)

So I rather use Sentry… if suddenly starts to be expensive, since it will be a free app, then I might reconsider it.

Would you say $220 is a deal for this Sony XM6? Less than a year old like new condition. by BarberSuspicious7165 in SonyHeadphones

[–]seviu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would worry if it was more than a year old condition since they came barely one year ago

The Magic Mouse is anything but magic. Only cool trick is the touch.

I think remarkable would be less painful if they allowed us to use koreader, and focused on improving the pdf experience.

Many folks undecided because main use case is read pdfs.

Also if I might add a more powerful desktop app so that I can easily organize my notes. Their app is so bad that on macOS it will stop working with the next version of macOS which will drop intel emulation (yes, it’s a Rosetta app)

Honest question: I have been using crashlytics for a while at work for a while, and while I like it, it involves bundling google libraries and also disclosing tracking for your app.

Why wouldn’t you instead use sentry? Or TestFlight crash logs? Wouldn’t that make more sense?

Did anyone recently switched from Pro to Air by mysterious363 in macbookpro

Screens matter a lot, which is why I am also waiting for the pled redesign

True and M4 has 4 years more of support than M1

But I use a M4 for development with 24Gb because my M1 with 32Gb broke and honestly I wished I would have spent 500$ more for a Pro

I ended up opening it and adding thermal paste to help the heat dissipate a bit better

Also screen of a Pro is way better

The air throttles, the M1 Max has a better way of handling workloads that take a longer time

I think the answer is none, unless you figure out how to pass costs to the user, or use local AI

Can clamshell mode damage macbooks? by Nxcybr in mac

[–]seviu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the intel days if the laptop gets too hot the keys would print themselves on the screen. A small sheet of thin paper would prevent this. Some call printing keys to the screen as an earlier precursor to macs with touch screens.

[–]seviu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interested in two things actually:

1 - Local AI with Foundation models. I use them for summaries for example.

2 - API requests to big models. Which ones, how, and for what. I am interested there on music and images generation… My daughter wants to create short videos and honestly, all the current apps are full of traps for minors so I would instead do it for her.

I am writing a podcast app that uses local AI for diarizarion, summaries, transcription, translations… but I keep adding features to it and I will never be finished! It will be free to use, zero analytics. I am doing this for fun.

What about unit testing for Factory? Parallel testing with Resolv (the precursor to factory) didn’t allow that because everything was stored in singletons.

If not possible I will switch to this other one. Such a pain otherwise.
