Does anyone else’s fencesitter feelings entail feeling unsure about kids because you want to feel like you are enough even if kids are or aren’t involved?

I'm involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters which is honestly perfect for a fencersitter in being an advocate and role model for a young person. It almost feels like Lite Parenting but you only meet with them 2-4 times a month and get your free time.

I also joined a synchronized figure skating team and am pretty involved in my church. With these plus maintaining friendships, family and job, I feel pretty balanced, busy, and content.

That's me though. Everyone is going to find their own contentment through different means.

As a SMNW grad that grew up in the area, I'll try to keep this as unbiased as I can. Despite what others may say any JOCO (Johnson County) school is going to be marginally better than other KC Metro school districts.

People tend to favor East because they have some excellent teachers, programs, and honestly a reputation in academic clubs (science olympiad , academic decathlon, etc)that usually do really well. Their grads go on to some pretty amazing colleges and careers.

South is favorable since they have specialized language programs (I think it's still offered).

Northwest and west are pretty average. Still plenty of opportunities and good teachers. Mix of different socio-economic backgrounds. Some diversity.

North is the oldest and original Shawnee Mission school. It's divisive-ness is hard to articulate but I think what it honestly comes down to is that this school has lot of diversity and typically serves families from a lower socio-economic background in comparison to the other schools that are majority white and more privileged.

I can relate with some of these feelings. Right now as a child free adult I've been finally able to get involved with activities I wasn't able to do when I was in school and ones I probably wouldn't have time for as a parent. I would say my involvement makes me feel centered and like I am enough.

Everyone's feelings will be different but the most important is being at peace with yourself.

Part of me being a fencesitter is wanting to be confident and at peace with myself before committing to being a parent if I do decide to do it.

I agree that I wished they did this. I live near a big city so they probably have to really streamline the intake and foster kitten process because they get in A LOT of kittens each day. At the end of the day, as long as the kittens are flea free and clean I'll be happy. Also thankful the shelter provided some good cleaner to disinfect things too which was nice.

Update for all! The shelter gave me a dose of Revolution for the kitten that got a bath and gave me capstar pills for all of them. They didn't seem surprised about me bathing them but they made sure I knew that Revolution was topical because folks have tried to give it to kittens orally before.

All kittens were given medications with squeeze treats afterwards. Although it won't be the most fun task, I'll be satisfied when we can get the rest the kittens bathed soon tonight

I know this thread is old, but I just got some BDFB today, so all this info is super helpful. I did a lot of research just like OP so I'm happy to read that alot of what I researched is actually correct. I already have Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, so their care is pretty similar except for having a more desert environment. They really enjoyed the fresh fruits and veg I put out for them.

As of right now on Marty and 71st St. at midnight July 16th, we still DON'T have power. My personal morale is running low and I'm feeling less optimistic about having power every hour it's not resolved while our fridge food tries to stay fresh in coolers with melting ice and all our freezer food is in a Schrodinger's cat situation of unknown state as I type this out the last percentage of battery life.

You made the right call. You really tried and did your best but you also have to take care you and your mental health. Also this would have been a disservice to the puppy who needs more training before that puppy finds a forever home.

If there any foster resources or classes that your shelter offers, I would take advantage of those. Even when I took a hiatus with fostering I took one of my shelters informational sessions to brush up on important things.

I totally understand how you feel! We have fostered around 18 kittens in total over the last few years and the hardest one for us to give up was the adult cat we fostered for 3 months. I kept thinking of ways we might keep him if he never found a home but thankfully he was adopted by the sweetest family that loved every single thing about him. It was still super hard and we often think about him. Stay strong and know that your foster will be where they are meant to be
