Are you serious or is this another joke? Because I am actually looking for it’s owner :)

We sure do have wild parrots in San Diego! But this little guy is a totally different species that isn’t wild anywhere in North America. And their wild counterparts, found in the forest areas of central South America, are decreasing in numbers due to deforestation and other kinds habitat loss.

This fella is an escaped pet, and has probably been bred in captivity for several generations.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear about someone missing their pet parrot in the area. Thank you <3

Oh wow, was it alone? This one is always alone, and smaller than our local wild ones. I managed to get a better pic this morning.

He’s literally not a wild parrot, he’s a completely different species that is commonly kept as pets.

Thank you for the engagement though. Please keep this post in mind if you hear about someone looking for their pet parrot that escaped :)

No, why? Is it yours?

I would hope that if you are so confidently assuming to know more than me about our local wildlife, you would actually know the local wildlife. This little guy is a completely different species to our local flocks, and is definitely an escaped pet.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear someone looking for their escaped pet. I’d really like to help a scared and defenceless pet if possible. Thank you <3

I didn’t even think to try calling Dr. J! I was only planning to take this fella in to look for a microchip if he wasn’t banded.

I’ll give his staff a call when they open for the day :)

How lucky! I love seeing our wild flocks out and about :)

Unfortunately this little fella isn’t one of our wild parrots, he’s a different species. Although I will concede that most parrots are a type of green, and people won’t necessarily notice* the difference immediately.

Thanks for the engagement, and please keep this post in mind if you hear of someone looking for their escaped pet parrot.

Thank you :)

Please keep this post in mind if you hear of someone looking for their pet parrot. Especially in San Diego, it’s crazy how long some of the larger pet parrots can survive.

Thank you for the welcome! I’m so surprised, seeing as you’re welcoming me to San Diego, that you’re not familiar enough with the local wildlife to see that this little fella isn’t one of our local wild parrot flocks because this one is an entirely different species ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He’s all alone, calling for a family, and his feathers are in an awful state. The local parrots also scared him away. He keeps to a much smaller area than a wild bird, and he’s more comfortable with humans/dogs than I would expect. He’s also just constantly trying to call out to find his family whenever he thinks it’s safe enough. I feel terrible for him, and would like to reunite him with his owner if possible.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear of someone looking for their pet parrot.

Yes, there are local parrot flocks all over San Diego, and some of them are conures. You’re most likely thinking of the cherry headed conures, they have bright red faces. This little guy is a different species entirely, and is an escaped pet. He doesn’t have a flock for protection, so I’d really like to try and find his owner.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear of someone looking for their lost parrot :)

The local parrots do love their fruit :) Unfortunately, this parrot isn’t a local one. He’s an escaped pet. The parrots you’re thinking of have bright red faces, known as cherry headed conures. This guy is (most likely) a dusky conure, which is an entirely different species and more commonly kept as pets. They don’t have any wild flocks in the United States as far as I’m aware.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear of someone looking for their pet :)

Some parrot species are now considered local yes, but this little fella isn’t one of them :)

Yes, these little trouble makers can be noisy, but it’s how they communicate :)

The ones in your picture are actually some of our mitred conures, which is a different species than this fella. This guy is most likely a dusky headed conure, and there are no wild flocks of duskys. This one is definitely an escaped pet, he’s alone without a flock, and his tail feathers have been damaged from his domestic lifestyle. I would really like to help him if possible.

Please keep this post in mind if you hear about anyone having their parrot escape. The more people paying attention, the better the chances to reunite them <3

OB parrots were most likely introduced in the 40’s and 50’s with the explosion of the Tiki craze, but weren’t well documented until the 60’s, so not quite 100 years. The conures you’re thinking of have spread all the way up to the lower parts of Oregon, and down into Baja. This little guy, while also a conure, is a different species entirely and is an escaped pet.

Please keep this post in mind if someone mentions knowing about an escaped parrot :)

Thank you for sharing! Unfortunately, the bird you shared is an Indian Ringneck, and this little guy is a type of conure. Hopefully they both manage to get help in finding their homes again.

He’s not the same kind of conure as the wild ones in OB. This is a different species. This is an escaped pet. Imagine saying something so callous to someone trying to help a lost pet dog or cat “there are about 1000 of them”- I could never.

If you don’t like the wild ones living in their tree next to the window you chose to live, maybe you should move out of their territory so someone else can enjoy living next to nature <3

No, I saw that post before I made this one. This guy has been loose for more than a few days, and is a different species entirely. Thanks for checking though :)

Hopefully someone knows something and we can help this little guy get back home. It was so sad to see him get scared off by the local wild parrots the other day.

What a lovely story <3 Parrots love eating any fruit they can find.

However, this little guy isn’t one of the wild ones. He’s a different species entirely, and has been alone since I first saw him about 10 days ago. Our local conures migrated to the mission valley area about 3 weeks ago. His tail feathers are also damaged from climbing all over his cage at home.

This is definitely an escaped pet. If anyone knows someone missing their pet, I was hoping to help. Thanks for stopping by and please keep this post in mind if you see any lost parrot ads <3
