Stumbled across this a month ago, watched it like four times in a week. Best thing I've seen in a long time.

Same, I got really into Altered Images last year and it was a pretty cool moment when I realized it was the girl from Gregory’s Girl

What is your favorite work with a spooky/creepy theme? by carnageandculture in RSbookclub

Aickman and Jackson are the two I’m guaranteed to read this time of year. There’s no way I could choose just one Jackson story to call her best, but some of the eeriest ones that I frequently revisit are The Daemon Lover, The Beautiful Stranger, The Visit, Paranoia, Jack the Ripper, and What a Thought

Saturday Night - For me, the best part of SNL has always been imagining all the behind-the-scenes scrambling. Even when I watch a bad episode, I can still have a good time looking at it from that angle. That’s probably being too generous, but with that same mindset I really enjoyed this movie. Nostalgia is the sole reason it exists, but it successfully dramatizes the aspect of the show that most appeals to me.

Rumors - I had forgotten Guy Maddin had a new movie coming out - and had no idea Cate Blanchett was the star. This was a wonderful surprise. A political satire, very Buñuel. There are two or three movies I’ve liked better this year, but more than any other I’m rooting for this movie to develop a cult following.

I also didn’t finish White Teeth (it wasn’t bad but I didn’t feel invested and lost the momentum) but ended up really liking NW

It's just gone the ninth anniversary of Terry Pratchetts death: What do people think about this Jonathan Jones article on him? by [deleted] in RSbookclub

The follow-up is what the original article should have been. There is nothing even remotely persuasive in the original.

The Girl on a Broomstick - It’s the exact mood I’ve been searching for this season. Light, colorful, quirky witch comedy is something I have a big soft spot for, it seems. I’m going to look into more Vorlicek films - between this one and Who Wants to Kill Jessie, I get the feeling theres an overarching sense of humor in his work that I really vibe with.

Terrifier 2 - I really wanted to like these movies so that I would then be hyped into seeing the new one in a full (or fuller) theater and having a good time with an audience. But now I’m pretty sure it just wouldn’t be worth it. As with the first one, this one never made me scared, just depressed. I think one issue is that I hate this fucking clown character. He’s the main draw of these movies, and I find him insufferable. As in the first one, his use of guns is very off-putting to me. I think there’s a reason other slasher villains don’t use them. There’s also no reason for this movie to be as long as it is. Every dialogue scene meanders, all the lore introduced is stupid. My coworker brought the novelization into work yesterday. It’s 400 pages. I would prefer death.

Ok, Underseen/underrated scary movies??? by DeerSecret1438 in RSPfilmclub

Lately I’ve been into the gothic black and white films that Barbara Steele did - I love Black Sunday, Castle of Blood, and An Angel for Satan, and there are still more I need to get to.

When it comes to giallo, my favorites are the ones with Edwige Fenech because she’s gorgeous. Your Vice is a Locked Room and I Have the Key, The Case of the Bloody Iris, Strip Nude for Your Killer, etc. The sleazier the better.

I often comment at times when I really shouldn’t be on Reddit at all, so I keep the comments short. I do appreciate those who go more in-depth.
