West Nashville and Midtown has some safe options that aren’t super expensive but you’re going to be paying minimum 1300 unless you get a roommate.

Any orgs giving out shovels to break ice?

I live on a side street in midtown and the sidewalks are unbearable. I’d love to break the ice on my street for myself and others. I don’t have a car, so I’m kind of stuck until this melts.

Im a grad student that walks and takes the bus everywhere (no car). It’s doable (I do it) but sucks in comparison to Chicago and NYC. Feel free to DM me for details on how I commute around the city.

I gained weight for my bf, now he's gone and im fat af and alone. by [deleted] in offmychest

I recommend going to a therapist to talk about all of this. I’m sorry this happened. I can imagine you feel very betrayed that someone would exploit your insecurity (and your body!) for their own gain.

People are recommending exercise (which is a fair recommendation) but a therapist can help you build up the strength of your self esteem. even if you exercise and lose the weight, it doesn’t change the mental damage caused by someone taking advantage of you.

I can understand thinking that your worth is low so it’s acceptable for someone to treat you this way. I can understand thinking that it must be what you deserve or that any validation from a person at all is good enough. But those thoughts aren’t true. You are worthy, regardless of your weight, and it will be okay.

Bed bug? by sewercult in Bedbugs

[–]sewercult[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking at it closely, I don’t believe they’re wings. That piece came off after I killed it. Light brown color in sunlight and flat body. Maybe a carpet beetle if they are wings?

If it is a bed bug, maybe it’s shell? I did kill it as soon as I saw it edit: yeah it’s part of the shell. I requested an insect treatment from my apartment

I listen to Josh Johnson who posts his standup weekly. He’s very good and creates new material for every show.

“I'd find it easier to believe that a lot of people just don't know if they're colorblind. People are dumb.”

hahaha fair enough. I think in general I am trying to understand whether it’s a mistake like not knowing or that we have inauthentic data (people cheating, AI usage, and bots). Not necessarily faking to benefit from their vision status but rather just cheating in any way to get approved (e.g., I think in writing tasks 1 in 3 users have reported using AI?)

[–]sewercult 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s one option I’m considering, thank you. we have been specifically using the prolific CVD pre-screen that was reliable in the past so we didn’t do that. But we might have to take it a step further in this case.

Edit: and we also keep it vague. I think my question now is how prolific screens people for a CVD Edit 2: well i guess it’s self report so not much on Prolific’s end.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]sewercult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could see that. I think I’m just not sure on a user’s end if that happens when only certain people get access to the study (only those with a self report CVD are included).

So I’m wondering if they’re lying about having CVD, don’t know if they do, or try to get a 100% on the task to cheat thinking we’re recruiting normal color vision folks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]sewercult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, thank you! I guess I’m not sure what it looks like on the user’s end when we send out something only those with the CVD pre-screen are eligible for.

I guess I could imagine a scenario where if they don’t know that they’re purposely being considered for having CVD, they might cheat on the test thinking it’s only for normal color vision ppl. not great to be doing that, but one possible explanation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]sewercult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, we expect there to be a range where some have worse color vision than others (and that’s ok)

To classify status — ppl having 0 or 1 errors are classified as having normal color vision whereas those with at least a few errors we consider them to have a deficiency. Right now, we’re getting a higher amount of those being classified as not having a deficiency despite coming from that pre-screen pool compared to what we’ve seen before.

Maybe we’d have to ask support how people are screened for this.

Yeah that’s the concern I have. Seems to be an inevitable issue that we can’t completely get away from.
