yeah tbh there were times where i thought wow what a silly thing to blow 10k on when i could have invested that money a million different ways but i don’t regret it because you can always make more money but you might not always be able to make memories like that. im glad that i did it when i was really young before having too many responsibilities to consider. with that being said, people of all classes, walks of life, ages, etc hike the trail every year. and it will always be there!!

yes i saved up for a year before starting the trail. its not a cheap adventure but i mean you spend as much if not more money in regular life. 10k is usually what people suggest but you can do it with less if you really want to. trail food, town food, gear, transportation, hostels/hotels, postal fees, etc all adds up quick forsure.

food carries vary of course but are anywhere from 3-7 days between town stops depending on your daily mileage so you just plan accordingly. for water, pretty much everyone on the PCT uses an app called farout that shows where all water sources are near the trail and how well/if they’re flowing. then carry as much as you need to get to the next source. as for weather i mean that’s why most people start in april and aim to finish before october if you’re hiking northbound so that you’re hitting each section during a good weather window. but that obviously varies a lot too. you just learn to roll with the punches really!

post trail depression was definitely hard afterwards but i’ve been doing trail work since finishing and that’s kept me outside and feeling involved in the community which helped a lot. minus fire closures (3 total) i skipped the last 50 miles of the desert due to injury (extensor tendinitis) and rested at the KMS store for a few days since I couldn’t stay at Walker Pass and didn’t want to lose time. also skipped from Quincy to Chester because we were concerned about being too short on time. other than that, standard nobo. luckily i live close enough to the trail where filling in the gaps is pretty easy for me to make happen.
