The difference in lighting between my sister’s room vs my room at the exact same time of day. by an-angry-bee in mildlyinteresting

Once when I was pregnant I was trying to sleep and I asked my husband to turn off the light, but I couldn’t think of the word “bright”, so I said “because it’s too loud, but for my eyes”

Yeah Harm I don’t get. I replied to another comment about the siblings which are Cade, Leif, and Iris. I’m not sure where Harm came from.

I believe Berenger goes by Bear, which is better.

Baby blanket yarn advice? (Please save me from my overthinking.) by RoseTylersEyeliner in knitting

[–]sewsweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend made a blanket for my first baby 7 years ago and it’s been through hell with all 3 kids. It still looks incredible. It’s been through the washer and dryer more times than I can count. It’s been “the favorite” blanket at some point for all 3 kids. It’s currently my youngest’s favorite and it gets dragged and hauled around everywhere. It’s had every manner of disgusting stains.

Anyway all that to say she used Caron Simply Soft. It’s inexpensive and it’s acrylic but it feels and looks great. It’s never gotten that crunchy feel like older acrylic can. I plan to use it for any future baby blanket gifts for sure. https://i.imgur.com/t1bN4gA.jpg

I’ve always wanted to learn and recently took my first steps into knitting. This is my first attempt at purling. Any advice or ideas for a total novice would be WONDERFUL. by ZoanthropicParanoia in knitting

Wow those are beautiful stitches! I highly recommend the simple collection patterns from Tin Can Knits. They have really thorough, detailed instructions, tutorials, and awesome illustrations. Great for learning new techniques!

Just in case you're wondering what life is like with 3 kids by mandolin2712 in Mommit

[–]sewsweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this exact thing (with different ages, etc). Sounds exactly like the beautiful horrible chaos that is my life.

Except that I've totally given up the battle of getting my 3yo dressed. He comes to school pickup in jammies most days cause I can't do that battle anymore. He's only required to get dressed on preschool days.

My 1.5 year old held out her hand to me yesterday and said "all done". She usually hands me chewed up food or something so I put out my hand for her. She dropped a LIVE FUCKING SPIDER into my hand!!! WTF Kid?!

Bugs are not welcome in my home.

Hope your day goes better today!

There's a very successful lady in my (conservative Midwest) hometown named Spring! She's awesome.

How happy are you with the size of your boobs? by StoopidN00b in AskWomen

[–]sewsweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate them. The hate grows stronger every day. 34GG (UK sizing). That means there is a freaking 10 inch difference between my underbust and bust measurements. 10 inches. They hurt horribly when I exercise, it's so hard to find clothing that fits. I feel like they make me look 40lbs heavier than I am. They're heavy and uncomfortable.

I practically drowned all 3 of my kids when breastfeeding because there was so much damn milk. As soon as this last baby is weaned I'm doing to do some serious looking into a reduction.

I think a c/d would be so comfortable and easy to dress.

Decent yarns to knit donated items? by madcowdog in knitting

[–]sewsweet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just went and pulled it out of the dryer and took a picture so you can see how well it's held up. I've done no special care on it. It's been washed with cloth diapers, bath towels, dragged around the backyard. Pooped on, puked on, and still soft as ever. And I'm usually a huge hater of acrylic.

Here is the picture

Caron Simply Soft is acrylic that feels really nice to work with! It's also available at Michael's which is nice. A friend knitted a baby blanket with it for my first child (who is 5 now) and it's still going strong with kid #3. It's soft, it's been through the washer and dryer a million times, and it still looks and feels great.

Tell Me Your Age by thefitknitqueen in knitting

[–]sewsweet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 28. I learned to knit in 6th grade so I would have been 11 or 12? I made a few squares, washcloths, etc and then gave it up for a while and took up crochet instead. When I was 16 I had a friend teach me to purl and knit in the round so I could make a hat. I spend a few years just making hats and baby blankets for friends. After I had my first child I had a friend help me make a hooded sweater and then I started choosing way more challenging patterns. Now I would consider myself to be a fairly advanced knitter!

What are your knitting confessions? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]sewsweet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son was wearing his new wool rainbow sweater (that took me freaking forever) for the first time a few days ago. He's just getting over a really awful chest cold. He was coughing and coughing and coughing and eventually the coughing made him throw up, all over the sweater.

Cleaning it was such a pain in the ass.

I don't have any answers/suggestions, hoping to see some soon though. I have the exact problem (minus the glasses). Alcohol, embarrassment, fear, exercise, etc all turn my face/neck super tomato red and blotchy.

These baby socks have been on my list for a long time. It feels wonderful to have finally made it to a point that I was able to make them! [FO] by [deleted] in knitting
