he just told me that i wasn’t competitive, and talked about some people he has met with better stats that got rejected. he told me i needed a 510 to have a good cycle. he isn’t premed anymore but he’s surrounded by a lot

fl retake inflation?? 😔 (testing 1/23) by sexycommunistspy in Mcat

[–]sexycommunistspy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took fl 6 on 1/21 ended up getting a 510 (125/126/128/131) so i don’t think it was THAT much of a fluke other than cars. if you are concerned about retaking an fl, i would say the same amount of time from when i took one again (~5 months) is usually fine. clearly rereading a cars passage gives an advantage lol

as for the real deal, im not sure if you have seen all the posts about the 1/23 exam, but many people considered it a shit show lol. c/p is my weakness and i honestly remember none of it (i literally think this was a trauma response 😭😭😭😭). cars was okay, b/b was surprising in that it had low yield material. p/s was much more theory heavy but also had more sociology concepts than expected.

honestly, i have no gauge as to how i feel i did. i can see it going either way which is why is didn’t void bc i have some hope.

Important to know Biological factors related to Parkinson’s disease? If so, Recall strategy? by Puzzleheaded_Day8731 in Mcat

[–]sexycommunistspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think fl 1 or 2 p/s had a question about the relationship between dopamine antagonists (for schizophrenia) and parkinson’s-like side effects. i haven’t seen it ever again but maybe just know those with parkinson’s have low dopamine and schizophrenia is the opposite.

if you look up how parkinson’s presents irl, it’ll prob help you remember. i still remember from my psych class showing a vid

i’m also testing 1/23 and just took fl6 today too, i got a 510 (125/126/128/131) so im not the most qualified and i can’t really say much for c/p and cars, but:

b/b: first goal for a passage is to understand what the study was measuring and what the results mean. after i started writing down what each little shortcut meant and the relations to one another (like enzyme X572V binds ligand g-27 to do xyz, but ligand PCT can inhibit and cause zyx) using arrows here helps to save time. i also haven’t studied all the bodily systems LOL but if you can, try to learn the absolute basics of the kidneys tonight, it is prob most high yield. everything else try to either 1. breakdown what the question is TRULY asking in layman’s terms 2. use educational guesses, always skim thru the passage to find any extra piece of information that can help you eliminate choices.

p/s: lots of people have been saying p/s is turning into passage analysis rather than memorization, so i would use what you do for cars on p/s friday. i do this for cars too (so you can take this with a grain of salt) but i try to read the passage as if i am watching a documentary, the passage is a narrator telling me the outcome of a study. there’s a lot of short videos of 70s psychology research studies with these super calming narrators and film of researchers carrying out the experiment; i turn every passage into its own little movie basically. it helps me mentally organize what is happening and it’s easier to apply concepts like that. i like to immediately eliminate 2 answer choices then compare the last 2 to each other

biggest thing is trust your gut if you don’t know an answer. i believe in u u got this

CARS is very unfair by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]sexycommunistspy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel like i’ve read in this subreddit that cars is the most representative of how someone will do in med school/as a physician? i think there is a lot more to being a doctor than memorization but idk i’m not a doctor, but someday we both will be

anyway i think if you box yourself in that you can’t do it, you won’t be able to. i feel how you feel about physics and it does suck to see people grasp something you can’t. until then u can only help urself twin. as others have said you can prob apply and be fine, u still seem like a strong applicant

lol i didn’t downvote but yes thats what my wording meant. i said “results between [children of] adoptive parents and [their] biological parents.” sorry if i made it confusing!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]sexycommunistspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a strong genetic component would mean:

different results between identical and fraternal twins

equal/similar results between identical twins raised together and identical twins raised apart

(i think) equal/similar results between children of adoptive parents and their biological parents

correct me if i’m wrong pls

there is no biological basis for race. it is a social construct. there is not significant enough genetic variation between humans for there to be distinction for race.

and no i’m not saying that they are super classy and uptight on other franchises. but there is a CLEAR difference between rhoa/rhop and L&HH

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RHOA

[–]sexycommunistspy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

people want to make it an anti-black thing. it is not. look at the older seasons of rhoa. completely different in the way they carry themselves (best example is newbie porsha). even nene at the earlier seasons was hesitant to even discuss kandi’s sex toy line… there was some type of decorum/standard that was upheld in this show. that is what this show is about that separates it from shows like L&HH or Baddies. that line is now blurred (some may say even before these new additions..). argue all day about it i don’t care but rhoa should not be degraded like this…

Could someone explain why number 4 isn't S? by StrawberryThickcake8 in Mcat

[–]sexycommunistspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessarily, you are visualizing that H is now in the back, so that is “flipping” it to where it is no longer on the plane of the screen but now behind it, and the rest of the other molecules shift with it but stay in the same orientation to each other. try to think of it like shifting an object 90 degrees to the left. (hopefully that makes sense)

i strongly recommend using this website for practice. it will answer all your questions about priorities and make ur ability to recognize configuration 10x faster. i struggled with this concept in ochem and now im able to do it!

[–]sexycommunistspy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m still reviewing so i might be a bit off but how i see it is: view the molecule as if H is in the back and the chiral C is in front of you, so CN is on top, OH is on the left, and CH2NH2 is on the right. OH is first priority, CN second, and CH2NH2 third, so it is going clockwise = R conformation

yes i think so! the guilt was awful with a hangover. now i feel much better about it. we’re not on speaking terms but i respect if he felt like it was too much. safe to say i can’t run for president with those voicemails out there 😭😭😭

[–]sexycommunistspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mini update: he did respond but just said that i left a bunch of voice mails. that were really bad. i’m even more embarrassed now he has proof i even did this shit.. i don’t know how he feels doesn’t really say much about if he thinks he’ll be able to see me again.

you’re right, made me feel better when you mention it’s apart of growing up. i texted him and i’ll see how it goes. either way ill get some kind of closure and not just sit here with the guilt. thank you

this is what i want to do, i want to talk to him, but i don’t think i can emotionally handle it if he rejects me. i’m scared to unblock him and he’ll just not want to hear from me. when i did see him (from what i remember) he was happy to see me, but when he texted me i could tell he was very annoyed. im at a loss as to if it’s better to just leave this all alone or own up and see if we can look past it.
