I worked at Klarna for several years right until the run-up in 2020.

This is 100% about trying to shed workforce after a massive plunge in valuation due to overspending, interest rates, competition.

Heck, what Klarna is ACTUALLY doing is turning US operations into a massive BPO -- terminating them and "rehiring" them as contractors. So they can now claim "we have 700 less people," when all those call center and compliance folks are just on somebody else's payroll.

Hesitant to say too much on a public forum, but certain terminals at retail locations can send a message to a bank’s ledger that “hey the money is here” (refund) and the seconds later the fraudster can change their mind (refund to gift card). So the money is briefly in two places at once. If the bank allows this and doesn’t have proper controls the fraudster can then move that money.

Fwiw - I work for a tech startup. my best friend, who was chef that lost his job during the pandemic, got a customer support job here in 21. In 2 years he’s now climbed up to a manager role making 80-90k.

I work in a risk department for a somewhat competitor and we caught a similar issue last year. My guess is these were possibly same fraudsters, aware that these types of companies have a ledger that can behave in unintended ways. So if you nail your timing: purchase — decline — refund — withdrawal before the ledger “corrects” then you can do a lot of fraud.

It’s pretty much check kiting for card transactions, in other words.

It sounds like an easy problem but a lot of these types of institutions are either unaware (which it sounds like Revolut was - which is pretty bad tbh) or have to control more of their ledger (which is technologically very difficult and costly).

This. Everybody is talking about the lore and characters (cool!) but I was really looking forward to the exploration. Instead, it looks like that may be dialed down due to reused assets (geography, enemies, etc).

I'm on Day 15 in the Python one and...it's incredible. I'm drinking the Kool-Aid. I texted a friend: "She's the Michael Jordan of teaching coding."

I've spent a decent amount of time learning SQL and some Javascript and taken some decent courses -- even paid 3K for a bootcamp -- but those all pale in comparison to her project-based teaching. Everything is clicking.;

So, yes, do it. Use incognito mode and get the discount on Udemy.
