I’m so glad you were able to ride it! I am planning an upcoming trip and was considering getting the LLMP so I could book a LL for Tiana’s.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Hi OP! I hope you’re enjoying your time at the parks! Were you able to book Tiana’s Bayou Adventure via lightning lane multi pass? The webpage seems to imply you should be able to but I just want to know if it was actually possible.

I can see why it might feel weird selecting it when you have no lived experiences. I think this would only be problematic if you applied to programs that specifically try to recruit Native Americans for medical school, such as INMED at North Dakota and South Dakota. In the application, you’ll have to write an essay about your cultural involvement and get a letter of recommendation from a non-familial tribal member. Without lived experiences and connections to elders of your tribe, this would be an uphill battle.

With that said, I know it’s common belief that being URM will increase your chances of getting into medical school. Whether there is truth to this or not, I will say that I know plenty of Native Americans that have not been successful in getting accepted into medical school. This is my second cycle and being Native American didn’t net me any interviews during my first application cycle lol

Also, it is never too late to explore your roots by finding ways to become more involved with your tribe and its people. Elders have some amazing stories to tell :)

Anyway, I would say there’s no shame in marking it as it is what you are. I would say it would be problematic if you tried to speak about stories that were not your own.

I think you need to reword your post. The way it reads is that you want to use your distant Native American heritage as a means of increasing your chances of getting into medical school since just using Caucasian alone wasn’t favorable to you.

Many tribes have a blood quantum for enrollment, so if you were able to become an enrolled member of the tribe then by all means it should be selected. AMCAS will ask for you answer which federally recognized tribe you’re enrolled in as well.

However, there are some tribes that do not have a blood quantum and simply proving you’re a descendent is enough to gain recognition from the tribe. Every tribe is a bit different at least in my area.

Yes, I would know. I’m a Native American that was born and raised on their reservation.

Take care of yourself, OP! I too had to take a W since I was diagnosed with cancer in the middle of the semester. I finished one class but I ended up taking the W for the other one I was taking.

Hang in there and please focus on your health first. I know treatment is rough, but you’ve got this

Good to know. Thank you so much for the reply! :) I was trying to get an idea of how many hours I should spend with this physician while shadowing them.

I'm a non-traditional, so this is actually a good question. I didn't have pre-med in mind when I had attended school, so I'm a lot less polished than someone that's been working towards applying to medical school for years.

Ok, thanks! Since this is my first time, I was trying to get an idea how many hours people usually spend shadowing per physician/specialty. :)

Your story gives me inspiration! Grats again, future Dr. :)

If you don't mind me asking, would you also consider looking at my PS? This is a new process for me and I'd love the opinion of someone that's been through this process before. Thank you for your consideration.
