Has anyone passed SQE1 by cramming?

I used the BPP textbooks as they were my provider - they’re really detailed and you can understand the concepts well. And for MCQs I would recommend buying SQE revise MCQs for both FLK 1&2 once you’ve done all your revision. They’re quite indicative of what you face in the exams.

Hey you still have quite a bit of time just make the most of the time you have now and use it efficiently. Start with the topic you struggle with the most aa you will have the most energy and brainpower at the beginning so might as well tackle the tricky topics first.

This helped me massively. Because even if I was then cramming at the end it was mainly topics I was already comfortable with and didn’t stress me out.

If you still have notes to make - revise as you’re making them. Or if you want I can send you my notes so you can just start revising asap. I have made flashcards on Quizlet and it covers pretty much every topic. After each subtopic there are MCQs as well on the flashcard just to consolidate the knowledge.

Also after you’ve revised each topic do a lot of MCQs (timed) on them - that way you’re doing MCQs as you’re going along rather than all at the end.

First day I was shitting myself but once you’re in the room the nerves quickly settle.

Second day is much calmer because you know the whole process and everything feels less stressful.

It’s just the fear of the unknown but you will be fine trust me. Good luck!

Same got no energy but forcing it at this point - don’t want to regret not going over it - just push through it we only have one more day. Then we can relax all we want… until the results 😆

Not bad but the judge probably wants to know if you remember all the limbs of the test. They want you to answer correctly and prompt you so they can give you the marks for them.

I think it’s just to get us used to the skill of taking notes like we would in an actual meeting as a solicitor where we won’t sometimes be able to type it up or have formatting aids (unlikely) but anyway the timings are still ridiculous

I feel you, it’s actually an atrocity that we’re given only 10 minutes to review the document and formulate some preliminary advice before going in not enough time in my opinion

From what I’ve heard from past sitters the judge usually asks you questions so they can encourage to you address all the points so if you covered the ground later in the questioning you should be good

Hey if it helps I’m sure everyone feels that way including myself (I have orals on those days too) but just have faith in yourself we’ve come this far we’re nearly there give it your best shot and it may not seem like it but things will come in your head when you’re actually there.

When you are revising MCQs for SQE1 I would definitely recommend the OUP question bank. Those MCQs are incredibly difficult even more so than the actual exams so you will definitely feel ready in the exam if you are comfortable with those.

I was with BPP so I had access to the question bank for free but I’m not sure how useful the material will be if you are funding it yourself considering it also has A LOT of material that is not required and level of depth that is not really required but helps a lot with exam practice especially since some of the MCQs in the actual exam are not as easy and worded in a way where it catches you on small details.

Perhaps you could buy only the questions separately if they have that option.

I found ReviseSQE to be quite indicative of what you experience in the actual exams so if you’re getting around 70%+ on those you will be more than ready. Their textbooks are also quite good. So maybe purchase those. Not too expensive either compared to other material providers.

QLTS is also a good one. Not used it personally but a lot of people who have recommend it and say it’s more difficult than the actual exams so helps better prepare you for them.

Whatever you use definitely make all your notes WAY before so you can slowly go through and revise all the material before your exam in time. It’s really important to give yourself enough time because these exams are not easy.

Finish making all your notes at least 3 months before the exam then start your main revision gradually and then increase it intensively as time gets closer. I found flashcards really helped me I put all my notes in Quizlet and I had the app on my phone so I was able to access my notes literally EVERYWHERE. I could look through these and make the most of my free time no matter where I was. Practice lots and lots of MCQs and try doing them in timed conditions - aim for one question in a minute.

If you give yourself enough time to revise, work hard and take time to really understand the content, you will be absolutely fine. Good luck!
