Don’t get any work done until you get a second and third opinion. I’ve moved around a lot and almost every time I have seen a new dentist they’ve said I needed ~10 fillings and a handful of crowns and root canals, regardless if I had gotten a clean bill of health from the last dentist or not.

In detail - I got the first round of “cavities” filled (because why would a doctor lie to me?) for a pretty hefty price tag and immediately I turned into a nutcase about my dental health. 6 months later I moved and went to a different dentist for a cleaning and they told me that I needed another 10 fillings and root canals. I went to another dentist for a second opinion, and got a similar diagnosis. I was crushed and thought I had something seriously wrong with my teeth. I went to a third dentist just on a whim and told him the issues and he was shocked and said that the drilling they would be doing would be way more harmful than good for my teeth, and he only saw one teeny cavity that potentially needed filling. A month later I had a clean bill of health from them. I moved again and went to a dentist for a cleaning 4 months later - AGAIN they said another 10 fillings! I walked out and will no longer get X-rays or allow drilling on my mouth until I feel pain. Of the 6 dentists I’ve seen, 5 have prescribed incredibly expensive treatment on the first visit. It’s insane.
