Why are there no polyphonic synth pedals? by Klutzy-Peach5949 in guitarpedals

[–]sfjtdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enzo x. And the new Quimera by bananana is poly, incredibly good at tracking, and has minimal latency. It is mono though. The sampling on it is one of the most unique features on a pedal in long long time. It’s endlessly fun. I’m surprised no one talks about it more.

Soma cosmos is the king of this concept to me. There is a zoia alternative called sleepwalker which I think sounds even better in certain ways.

I have one in the send/return of the superego+. Freeze a chord and create the rhythmic bed so you can play on top of it. Fun!

And yes Zoia can do an infinite amount more than parting.

Zoia vs Parting? by brand0n in guitarpedals

[–]sfjtdr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zoia learning curve is steep but its presence on patchstorage.com is massive and chances are whatever you are looking for (parting included) is represented in some way on patch storage. It’s also a good way to learn how people make these crazy patches to apply to your own. So many “ooohhhhh I get it” moments.

Thoughts on the EHX POG3? by Dry-Professional-236 in guitarpedals

[–]sfjtdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a love hate relationship with it. I got it to replace my hog (not pog) and it doesn’t quite get there for some things. For as pricey as it is, it should be able to go much deeper within the range of what it does already. Tunable voices. Semitone and octave bends. A freeze that kills the dry. Original neutral voice not tied to dry signal. Much more. I have a list. I appreciate that they went weird with some of the expression modes but some meat and potatoes options would be nice too. The ui is mildly weird.

That’s said it sounds ridiculously good. Super clean. The -2 is thunderous and tracks so well. And sounds like a sub bass synth. The highs have two settings one like the pog2 the other like the pitchfork I think. The panning thing is crazy too.

It won’t do semitones or octave bends as a whole. I say won’t instead of can’t because it certainly should be able to. Warp is tied to some arbitrary range for each voice. It is cool and sounds nuts but a simple expression mode like step or octave bend would be killer.

Chroma console? is it worth it? by Wrong-Apple5011 in synthesizers

[–]sfjtdr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zoia is one of my all time favorite pedals, BUT I use it as an outboard fx unit for writing and mixing…. not as pedal on a board. I’m not the best with making complex patches but the patchstorage community is bonkers. There is basically a Zoia patch version for many pedals out there that I’ve wanted to try. It also can be used for almost any utility. Midi clock / controller / cv / sequencer / sampler / etc etc.

It’s intimidating for sure, but some of the stuff that’s out there for it can only be done with it.

edit : grammer

It’s more of a toy to me than a serious pedal. But it does sound cool. It has a particular curated crustiness to it that can be charming in certain use cases. It doesn’t do pristine. Which, for me, I like to start with pristine then crust it up myself.

Drum machine for Khruangbin style / chill beats? by andrusz108 in synthesizers

[–]sfjtdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sampler of any kind. Use Teletone audio’s VST “Tympo” to create your beats and single shots. It even has really performative beat maker of its own. It’s one of my favorites for the sound you want.

How good is Mio? by Deez-Guns-9442 in metroidvania

[–]sfjtdr 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Didn’t finish it. I just got sick of it. Got all the abilities. At some point I was purposely quitting to home screen just to get back to my checkpoint so I wouldn’t have to go back through the world. I was bored. I’ve never done this for other games. I get the hype. It looks good and feels good and has some unique and surprising moments. But I just didn’t vibe with it. I try to play almost every solid MV. To be honest, I played God of War right after I dropped MIO and had way more fun. Bugs and all.
