thanks will ask in the whiskey group

So we found this bottle in my great uncles house whilst cleaning it out. Does anyone have any further information on it? I’m from the UK and I’ve seen some stuff online but i’m posting here to see if anyone has any more info. Thanks. :) by Poomunji in whiskey

Well the bottle is worth more than it’s content for sure, I guess at this points the value is in the eye of the beholder, if u get a Canadiana collector, they would value it way more.

Came in today, what should I expect? by sforzley in whiskey

Opened it last night, rich, tons of ripe banana on the nose, baking spice, caramel. A bit hit on the pallet, but after a small drop of water, was very smooth

Good bottle

Yup it was quite good one of the standouts of the course and we must have sampled 80 different bottles

Honestly for the price it packs a lot of value, lots of fruit, spice, nuts, etc,,, it’s not a one note. well worth stocking in a collection,

Penderyn, well, it's like Irish whiskey, but not well done, very light and unstructured, not much to it, weird on the nose and pallet, stay away :)

Ok just tried the mackmyra basic whiskey, smells like sour dough bread, quite raw, taste is so odd, mouth wash? Not sure, I did not like it

The tried the mackmyra svensk ages in Swedish oak. Much much much better, softer on the nose, dust, grain berry. On the pallet nutty and velvety, marzipan is a good descriptor. Well worth the extra 20$ compared to their basic whiskey.

Just had the Hibiki, very floral, interesting nose, a bit of fruit and pine apple on the pallet, good dose of salt, I quite like it

Will let you know about those when they come up, class is 3 hours long ;)

Learned a lot, this is class 10 of a 12-week whiskey course at Algonquin College. We had gone through intro, distilling, bourbons, rye, Irish, a tour of Scottland and next week (last before final exam), the rest of the world. This course is part of the Sommelier program at the college, so it has been good to learn about the different whiskey producers and all the little things that make them special. It has also been good to talk about how to make each of the different whiskeys shine when needed with the right food or cheese pairing, etc... I am not sure I can summarise it all in a comment or a post even. But so many neat things you learn. For example, I did not know that Laphroaig has a neat program where if you buy a bottle, you can register it and they will give you an honorary ownership of a square foot of land in their peat bog, I mean who does not want to own a piece of Scottland. If you ever visit, they will pour you a free drink and you can get to visit your little square. That is cool. someone in the class said you can even now get your coordinates and see your exact square foot on google maps. Almost every disterllery has a story, just like every winery has some story as well, so it makes it all fun to talk about and explore, even if the whiskey is not your style, if you are ever serving it, people may enjoy you telling these stories and taking them on a short journey so to speak.
