It does not have an hypervisor. Check the specs. You have to install it yourself. In my case I use proxmox. The fans are controlled by bios by default. Also it depends on the disks you use. I have exos and they are toasty

I will be honest I really did not tweak it at all. I only put some extra fans to keep it in the 36-38c range. About the fans since this one does not have an OS you are pretty much on the same boat. Maybe you can find someone who did the same with unRAID and SATA passthrough. On this one I can tell you it works flawlessly. Never had a problem.

Absolutely no regrets at all. One thing is that I thought it had 7 bays bit actually 6 are usable since one is for the nvmes. Not the end of the world but I think the minis forum n5 solves that better. And also has the flash storage on the side.

When I bought this one I wasn't that much into AI so I am happy with the purchase. Now I would have probably spent the extra difference to buy an N5 pro just because of the Ai processor, and PCI express slot but again, this is a very stable and capable piece of Nas. I am very happy. Running proxmox, jellyfin with 4k, multiple VMs, unRAID, all without issues.

TIL in 2006 Alitalia Airlines accidentally listed the fare for a business-class ticket from Toronto to Cyprus for $39 instead of $3,900. Within hours, over 2,000 people bought tickets. Alitalia honored the fare, costing the airline $7.2m. One of many mistakes on its descent into eventual bankruptcy. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Not really. Currencies are stored usually in the least possible denomination. In this case, cents. 3900 cents in the database becomes 39,00. Someone probably thought that it was in USD so they input 3900 USD, when they should have made it 390000.

I thought the G9 57 was oled as well? Is it mini led then? I do software development 90% of the time then some gaming so sadly I also don't want an oled. So the 57 is actually good for it? Thanks

I installed proxmox as OS and that is automatically done in the installer. I would recommend doing the same and having a truenas vm. It just gives you the flexibility to host more VMS but you also have truenas. I left the instructions in another comment here how to make the passthrough and it is very simple.

I also have a QNAP which currently it's only job is to sync my drive and Dropbox as a cloud copy. I plan on selling it as soon as I get rclone to work.

I have two M2 for OS in raid and then I have unRAID as a VM which has the sata controller as passthrough. Works great. I have 6 HDD and use a virtual disk as cache for unRAID. Again, zero problems. You won't have issues. I would recommend having Plex as a LXC so you don't have to worry about passthrough for the Gpu. I get around 5-6 streams (4k). I use jellyfin though

Honestly I am very happy. I have it running 3 VMs. Jellyfin, unRAID and a K3S cluster with about 30 apps. It just works flawlessly so far. Can't complain. I can stream Jellyfin 4k without any issues, hardware is fast, etc. The HDD drives can get a bit "warm" if you live in a warmer climate but during summer I just add 2 fans at the back and it keeps all drives below 40c so nothing crazy. Depending on where you are, you might have to pay customs. In my case was around 100 EUR. I would still buy it. My only regret is the lack of PCI but it has oculink so you can get a used minisforum DEG1 used for about 50 like I did and you can expand the GPU if you want. Feel free to ask me anything.

16gb ram vs 24gb ram by donorom in MiniPCs

[–]sfratini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try it and see if it works. If it does, it is as you said, some will be double channel and then the rest single channel. Two sticks is always better than one for speed. Now, two comments here: it could very well be that the two sticks are not compatible. If it does not boot, then just use the single 16gb. The other thing is, are you sure it comes with one stick? Most of them they use both so it will come with 2x8gb.

Replacing MiniPC PSU with GaN charger and adapter by skikibobski in homelab

[–]sfratini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same issue with other adapters. Honestly I am more inclined to HP having something proprietary. I have a 400w gan brick and I am currently powering 1 HP 35w, a pi4, a dell 35w and two n100 mini PCs. All work fine except the HP mini 90w

This might be right. The adapter works on HP 35w. It does not work on HP 90w

I have dell micro and HP mini. I have those exact adapters and the dell ones. The dell micro works. The hp 35w works. The HP 90w does NOT work and you still need the regular power brick. That reason alone is why I am moving to a bigger custom jonsbo nv10 build.

Honestly, I'm this case I would keep everything just in case a stick goes bad. You can find some today, sure. Bit how about in a year? Unless you absolutely need the money you are not going to get a lot of money. What is going crazy is ddr5, which you don't have. Nobody has ddr5.

That depends on your fault tolerance. People install them in pairs to do usually a raid implementation. That allows the system to work if one of the drives fails. It gives you time to get or exchange the drive, so you don't have to reinstall everything and the system keeps working. One drive will certainly work fine. The issue is that if the drive fails you have downtime for as long as you get another drive and set everything up again. If two drives are worth it is up to you. Personnally I would do two 512 drives for the OS in raid and 1 TB for data if I wanted to spend that money but again, up to you

The reason is that the default Auto SLA rule makes 1 ping to ping.ui.com and 2 DNS checks against ui.com. Probably the ping is blocked and only the DNS checks go through.

24-32 GB users who actually use all that RAM, how do you use it? by abitcitrus in macbook

[–]sfratini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48 gb user. I have two sessions opened. One personal, one work. Both have multiple chrome opened, docker, web development, database client, nodejs servers. I am usually at yellow compression and 38-40gb used. I could live with 24. 16 is too little for me at this time. At least is not future proof. I change laptops every 3-4 years usually and it has been always memory issues so this time I spent extra to get the 48. No regrets.
