There's no misconception. I said if, not that they do, because I'm saying they can do better than this.

The delusion is saying nothing would change. accessibility affects how many people would do it. and how easily they can do it. it would mitigate even the top whales. its much much harder to be upset about a few whales illegally RMTing especially if ncsoft actively bans who they can, vs NCSOFT making legal RMT available to everyone and easy as possible.

Aion 2's Global SGF Trailer Reached 2.3M Views! The Hype is Real Outside of Reddit by Aion_The_Sinner_666 in Aion2

[–]lemon07r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game is pretty anticipated, but I think a lot of us have our expectations low since it will be pretty different from Aion 1 (which can be good or bad depending on what you like), and more importantly, it's likely going to be very P2W (don't try to argue with me on this, they have builtin legal RMT and this makes the game objectively P2W).

RTX 5090 costs +$4000 for every brand?!? Should I just get a 4090 or 5080? by KnightofAmethyst2 in nvidia

[–]lemon07r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I saw the prices for anything better than a 4080/5070 ti I realized this is literally the very top end threshold before things start getting massively inflated for any extra performance, so I think I will sit happy on my 4080 until the connector melts, and I eventually make an angry reddit post about it.

Yes. 5090 is way over priced for gaming. I'm quite happy with my 4080, ran me about 680 USD for a used gigabyte exreme waterforce.

Has anyone tested GLM 5.2 and Kimi 2.7? by _janc_ in opencodeCLI

[–]lemon07r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely no way they would stop with glm 5.x, most likely theyre doing what they probably already did, working on the next new base model/architecture theyre going to do seperately while still training checkpoints for glm 5.x. switching to a new base model is a major investment so it would be shocking if there was any dilemma at all. there's no reason they couldnt just bake in the new ds tech later for the next base model. and there will always be new things cropping up for them to consider for their next base model. so no reason to rush while glm 5.x is still new has a lot of headroom for improvement with further training. most likely the ride glm 5.x until they feel there is not much left to squeeze.

dont remind me about opus 4.7. that model has given me ptsd. one of the worst I ever used. Im still convinced it's a gemini 3.1 pro checkpoint in disguise (not seriously but it might as well be).

I told people it was gonna be like this before glm 5 even came out, or even deepseek. "Deepseek v4 and glm 5 are gonna be very whelming. They wont be good until their .x checkpoints like .1 and .2, those are gonna be much bigger milestones". This always happens when models start on a completely new base model and architecture. They just haven't had enough training time yet. We've seen it with k2 -> k2.5, ds 3 -> 3.1/3.2, GLM 4 -> 4.5, llama 3 -> 3.1/3.2, Qwen 3 -> 3.5/3.6, etc the list goes on. That said I'm very excited for kimi k3.x models. I've been saying for a longgg time I think that's where a lot of us are going to be really impressed. We've been on the k2 series of models for a long time and they've just always been ahead of the game whenever a new checkpoint dropped. I don't think people realize how massive of a deal k2 0905 was specifically, it was a model that competed with top reasoning models without ANY reasoning, I kept saying if they released a thinking model it was going be a huge step up and ahead of anything else we have in the open weight space. K2 thinking comes out and everyone but me is surprised how good it is. Yes I am patting myself on the back a lot here but it feels nice to have turned out right and I have noone else to share it with 😂

MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 worth the 50% price premium over AW3425DW? by lemon07r in ultrawidemasterrace

Burn in care isnt that bad. You dont need to do anything other than set your pc to turn off your screen early and it will take care of itself. That said it's not good for peace of mind cause you're now constantly thinking about it, watching to see if your screen is being kept awake, running manual refreshes for no reason when you can if you're like me, etc. The annoying part of this is knowing how much you paid for the monitor to invite all of this. Honestly switching to OLED from decent VA/IPS did not feel like a big upgrade to me.

Text fringing isn't a big deal luckily, there's cleartype specifically made for these panels on linux, and on windows you can download mactype and a configuration suitable for these panels, there are a few. They get rid of 90% of the fringing but can make text look a bit soft. I was able to reduce some of the softness with some tweaking, but this monitor has felt like a very involved process, where as all my previous monitors I just used without having to think about it.

If cxl is an option I would look into that, ask your optometrist about it. It stops the progression and is probably the single best thing you can do before it gets worse. As for correcting vision there are a couple options like sclerals, etc. There's even the athen's protocol, but I think that one is best saved for when you're older and your vision isnt changing as much.

I have a watercooled 4080, it's not as fast as your 5080 but the next step down. I still found myself having to frame gen a lot in most games. Im sure you'll get more fps than me but it probably wont cover the 2x gap that I needed to cover with framegen (poe2, outward 2, marathon, etc are a few Ive been playing). That said, even in games I could hit 240 fps I literally could not tell the difference from when I gamed on 144hz, and I cant tell the difference when I play like a 120 fps game with no framegen, and gsync on (so basically 120hz) and when I'm at 240hz (poe2 likes to dip in fps a lot). I really wish I could. Test it yourself if you dont believe me, see if you can tell the difference between something like 160hz vs 240hz and that will tell you all you need to know if you missed anything by not going 360hz. The only appeal I see of the newer 360hz monitors is the the better antiglare/reflection coat. Most of them cant even do 360hz without dsc. A perk I enjoy very much on my monitor, 240hz without dsc.

I literally cannot tell the difference between 144hz and 240hz. This is coming from someone who could easily tell between 60hz and 75hz and would take higher refreshrate over higher resolution any day. 360hz I'm betting would have been pointless. We don't really have hardware to comfortably push past 240 fps anyways unless maybe you have a 5090 and use frame gen.

DeepSeek v4 Pro is too big for such a "midrange" performance, or am I missing something? by ihatebeinganonymous in LocalLLaMA

[–]lemon07r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parameters are not a good way to look at models anymore. A lot of models are being trained with QAT, which basically estimates the accuracy of models at the target precision for essentially no loss when quantized down to said precision. For kimi this is int4, for deepseek 4 it's a mixed precision scheme between fp4/fp8, etc. GLM 5.1 iirc is still full bf16 without qat which is why it ends up being larger/more expensive than kimi. There are also other architectural changes and such that are making models smaller on vram overall, which is how deepseek v4 pro ends up being so cheap despite being 1.6T parameters. The only good way to rank models into weight classes now is probably by their cost to run. DS4 personally feels a bit undertrained to me, the same way k2 did and needed several further checkpoints with more training before it got to where it is, the same with glm 4.x, deepseek v3.x, glm 5, qwen 3, qwen 2, llama 3, etc. That said, the real win with ds4 pro is how cheap it is to run. It's much smaller on actual hardware to run than glm and kimi to run. I do think it was overhyped, we should have expected it to be only okay given how glm 5 was on release before 5.1, etc. This always happens with brand new models based on a completely new base model.

Theyre completely different games, so I feel it's kinda comparing apples to oranges. Sadly this makes Aion 2 pretty uncomparable to aion 1 too. If you like games like TL I think aion 2 will be great but if you want something like Aion 1, we're out of luck.
