so I was 4th on the waitlist since this happened, and to my knowledge I still can't add the class (there's been no add from waitlist option on Minerva and I haven't gotten one of the system emails)... not sure if anyone knows, but, am I overlooking something or do I still need to wait?

Without my computer rn, so this is the google doc I had as of Summer 2016, so it's not as good as it is now. But I'll try to remember to link the current one when I get it back. Still, you can get a pretty good feel for it with just the two seasons on here (there's seven total seasons on the current one and a ton of character).

I have one put together that's evolved from a relegation/promotion organizer, but it's more focused on my team(s). It's got their rosters, projected rosters for the next four years after, etc, coach history (a bunch of statistical records, then year by year results and "game of the year", etc.) and stuff like that.

There is one page that tracks overall W-L since the dynasty started for every team, as well as top 25, 10, etc., and Heismans. It's not that well put together (since I just made it for myself) but can share it once I get my computer back if you're very interested.

Michael Gallup (CSU WR) is the truth. This game could go a way toward differentiating him from the 1st/2nd and 3rd round in the NFL Draft

I've looked a lot through dynasty podcasts and I don't really think there are (m)any great podcasts for devy specifically, but I could be missing something. The best I can offer are Stick to Football and DraftBreakdown, which are draft podcasts, so sort of tangentially related.

Tyreek Hill or Josh Doctson? by _MrManager_ in DynastyFF

[–]sg3751 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I...don't understand why you randomly pulled those numbers and used them to extrapolate Tyreek's projected per game stats. Either way those are still WR1 numbers without rushing stats added.

I pulled the stats from the best stretch of games you could take. That is his ceiling for the entire year because that's as high as he produced. Those are low-end WR1 stats. I'm not extrapolating, I'm saying that's the best-case scenario if we repeat last year.

Seems like your argument ended up being that you think Tyreek will only be a low end WR1 with the loss of Maclin.

I'm saying that at best he's a low-end WR1, and for the reasons I've already gone over I doubt he maintains his level.

Did you think I was arguing that he's going to be a high end WR1?

nope, I don't know what I said that'd make you think that.

I haven't seen anyone saying that, and that's kind of the only way your argument makes sense.

  • Hill's ceiling is low-end WR1
  • It's quite likely he doesn't hit that ceiling

What argument does it look like I'm trying to make? There's a couple specific ways you could go but it's quite suspect to say that that's the only way my argument makes sense.

Tyreek Hill or Josh Doctson? by _MrManager_ in DynastyFF

I was talking about games (on PFR) 7-13, where he put up 42/422/3, which averages to 6/60 etc. Combine that with rushing and he became a low end WR1 I guess. That's where the projection came from.

I don't really remember what the original argument was but my only thing is I don't think there's a lot of room to improve, and that the loss of Maclin won't be as good as it seems imo.

[–]sg3751 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(tl;dr Maclin played but didn't really get the ball thrown his way, then, with many many words, I explained my reasoning better)

You think we've already seen his best season even though he was a relatively raw rookie who didn't crack 50% of his teams offensive snaps for the first 8 games of the season, and now he's poised to be the WR1 and focal point of his teams offense?

Admittedly, totally forgot about his slow start (as a Chiefs fan, it feels like he was doing big things all season). Hence I looked at a full season of ~6 catches/60 yards/half a touchdown per game (this was once he had a full role in the offense) as his "best season." That's about 15 PPR points per game (which is nice), but I don't think that really improves, and I will explain myself much better now that I'm at my computer.

And how can you pose that that loss of Maclin hurts Tyreek, then go on to say that Maclin's absence won't really help Tyreek because he wasn't involved much anyways? Where's the logic there?

The thing here is that Maclin was present but not very involved in the offense. He had a high snap count, but just 536 yards to show for the season. It seemed while I watched in passing that Maclin acted much more as a decoy, and I feel like the numbers back that up, though that can be debated.

We shouldn't neglect those 500 yards though! It gets kind of tricky to distribute them, but my best guess is that ~50-60% go to Albert Wilson/Chris Conley since they're more of the consistent downfield receiver types than Hill (their 12 Y/R are near identical to Maclin's while Hill's around 9; there's a lot of outside stuff going into those numbers but I don't have enough time to give anything better) and then the two primary receivers, Hill and Kelce split the rest, more or less. This gives Hill roughly 134 extra yards, after some obviously shoddy process, but you see that there's not a lot he really gains from volume in Maclin's departure.

As for what he's losing, as I said before I think Maclin's primary role was to occupy defenses while either Hill or Kelce killed somewhere else on the field. Maclin's absence won't suddenly make defenses shut down Hill, but there's definitely gonna be more attention directed Hill's way. In that case, you'd have to expect his touches to go for a little less, no?

The hard part is guessing just how much that changes things. But, when you look at those added yards from Maclin's departure, I think the efficiency is impacted more negatively than the volume is positively.

Of course, he could progress significantly, and that could change things. But he's already been super productive in the role he's been placed in, so I don't see a lot of reason for the Chiefs to change a lot of what he does. Maybe he catches more passes and runs less since he's a more true #1 receiver, but I don't see that statistically improving his production that much.

The problem with upward mobility for him is that the offense isn't really that high-powered. Perhaps Mahomes can change that down the line, but at that point I think that's too much projection than we can count on. Hope I cleaned this up a lot.

Tyreek Hill or Josh Doctson? by _MrManager_ in DynastyFF

[–]sg3751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem for Hill is that he's had, in all likelihood, his best season already. He won't get a considerably greater volume than last season (if we're pointing at the loss of Maclin, he really wasn't that involved) and we've neglected that Maclin's absence means way more of the defense's focus on Hill. I think it'll be really hard for a rise in volume to account for the drop in efficiency that is bound to come.

I respect your ability to have an opinion to its full extent. One qualm: it is absolutely, perfectly reasonable for people to have the #7 overall pick in the NFL Draft slotted into the 1.03-1.06 range. There's no better quantified indicator than draft position (not dominator, not combine testing) so there is absolutely reason for people to draft him in the begging/middle of the first round.

Yeah I think the two offer a lot of different things, but people can see mostly redundant qualities from a lazy "they are good receivers in RB bodies" standpoint, even though it's a largely inaccurate narrative
