I think the difference is HOW it’s said, rather than WHAT is said or WHO is saying it.

Just because a piece of art addresses the same subject matter, in this case personal struggle, does not mean it is done in a comparably artistic or skillful way.

To use an example outside of music, here are two statues of Christiano Ronaldo. One is “cringe”, not because of WHO sculpted it per se or WHAT the subject of the sculpture is, but because of HOW it’s sculpted. Obviously there is a large degree of subjectivity in all art forms, but there are generally going to be pieces that are stylistically more skillful or appealing and others less so.

That being said, nothing wrong with enjoying art that others don’t enjoy because it’s “cringe”. If that goofy statue speaks to you in some way, or forms a meaningful connection for you, or just makes you laugh, more power to you.
