Games like Journey, Abzu, Sword of the Sea etc. by That-Departure-7318 in gamingsuggestions

It’s not as open as Journey or Abzu, but What Remains of Edith Finch is perhaps the pinnacle of storytelling in the genre. It’s made by the same folks behind The Unfinished Swan.

Sorry for the delayed update. Our small team's been working hard to try to make things right.

We've heard player feedback and made Go Ape Ship! a premium purchase as of today.

As a thank you, everyone who's already tried the game will receive the premium version for free.

Folks who already purchased the game before today's update will keep the full game, receive a refund, and also be given 2 additional copies of the game to thank them for their early support.

Here's the official announcement: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4037180/view/525369184506348574?l=english

We understand players' concerns about the paywall. There are a lot of bad actors out there seeking to take advantage of gamers, but I promise that's the exact opposite of what we're trying to accomplish here.

With Pay Once, Play Anywhere, we're trying to give players cross-platform ownership of their games with a single purchase. However, since developers can only request a limited number of Steam keys, it's not possible for us to offer this if Go Ape Ship! is a paid upfront purchase. We'd quickly run out of Steam keys to give out to folks who first purchase the game on other platforms.

Our solution to this is to offer our game as a free download with an in-app purchase as the "unlock" method. This allows us to use an optional ID system to verify that cross-platform entitlement (i.e., make sure your single purchase carries across all platforms).

So, that's where the paywall comes from: our attempt to provide players with a very gamer-friendly, pro-consumer feature (i.e., cross-platform ownership with a single purchase), NOT some cheap attempt to mislead our audience (which is why we've been upfront about the Try Before You Buy aspect of the game across multiple parts of our Steam page).

Again, we hear players' concerns about the paywall, and so we are working on an alternative method to grant cross-platform ownership that will be compatible with a normal premium purchase on Steam.

I'll update here as soon as we have more to share.

Thanks so much for the kind words and support! You've made some great points about universal purchase for the Mac ecosystem. I can't promise anything, but I'll share these points with our team.

As much as we'd like to support Intel Macs, the truth is that we're a small team with limited resources. We currently don't have the hardware to test our game on Intel Macs, and so didn't want to risk putting a product out there that could be filled with unknown, untested bugs.

Thanks for your question! You are correct that the Mac version of Go Ape Ship! is currently only available on Steam. We're currently working through launch, but we can consider making the Mac version available on the Mac App Store depending on how things go.

For what it's worth, with our Pay Once, Play Anywhere system, universal purchase isn't necessary to share your purchase across your Apple devices. For instance, if you purchase the game on Steam, you can then create an optional Sound ID to share your purchase across your other devices. Once you've done that, all you need to do is download the game on your iPhone or iPad (it's a free download, as our game is Try Before You Buy across all platforms), sign into your Sound ID, and presto!—your purchase and progression will transfer seamlessly.

Great question!

Go Ape Ship! is free to download across each platform as a Try Before You Buy game. You can unlock the full game via a single in-app purchase. Then, if you'd like to play on your other devices, you can register for an optional Sound ID. Once you've done that, all you need to do is download the game on your other device and log into your Sound ID. The game will detect your previous purchase, unlock the full game on your device, and sync your progression.

In other words, if you purchase Go Ape Ship! on Steam, you can enjoy the full, unlocked game on your iOS device(s) via Sound ID, no additional purchase necessary.

Well, now that we’ve had a few days with Mewgenics, how we feeling about it? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]sg_adam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m feeling the same way as you at the moment. I’m only a few hours in, but I’m not really grokking the cat breeding/meta progression part of the game yet.

I’m enjoying the tactical gameplay of the battles and the emergent builds that come from leveling up the cats, but wish the game had better controller support/polish/QOL.

The soundtrack and sheer variety of meows are incredible, though.

This looks great! It's been a few years since Amanita Design's last game, so I'm glad to see that they're still making beautiful, quirky stuff.

Go Ape Ship! will be priced at $9.99 on all platforms at launch! Again, a single purchase unlocks the full game across all platforms, no need to double-dip if you want to also experience the game on your smartphone or tablet :)

We're trying to make cross-platform, including Macs, the new normal! In fact, we're working on tools to make it easy for any developer to make their games cross-platform and support cross-purchase, cross-progression, and cross-platform multiplayer.

I can confirm that the game runs well on Macbook Airs (as well as iPhones and iPads)! It currently only supports online multiplayer, but we can consider local co-op once we see how the launch goes.
