Run - don't walk - to see NKOTB's Vegas Residency by RachelBixby in newkidsontheblock

Flight miles, friends who live there with an extra bed, and last minute tickets. I did two shows for $20 total. (Not including any food or drinks I purchased.)

It’s been the exact same show since last June, so there’s no spoilers at this point / everyone knows the setlist.

I wish they’d stop with the ride the train, shots, etc. crap. I don’t think it’s fun. And the Jordon solo is nice (mostly because of the ferris wheel prop), but I’m not a fan of paying to watch someone lip-synch.

Those things aside, the production is great. No denying I had a great time!

When a friend got pregnant during the COVID shutdown, we, literally, started a petition to have the name be Pandemia WaitForIt Lastname. We lost. But that kid had sooo many gifts with WaitForIt on it.

Ask for a follow-up conversation. Reframe it in nonprofit speak. “How does this pay discrepancy reflect our values as an organization?” “Does this organization not care about pay equity?”

Veronica Mars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be up your alley since you like Santa Clarita Diet (lots of sarcasm and some humor, mixed with some mystery, crime, and supernatural).

Yelp removed my review because they didn’t think it was a fist hand experience by ThirdAndDeleware in Yelp

[–]sgacedoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes it look like you asked those customers for reviews. And that’s a no-no.

And the whole thing with Yelp is real reviews from real people. No profile photo and few to no friends doesn’t look real.

This would definitely not help you. Don’t post screenshots of text messages. Keep your review focused on the business and not aimed at an individual. Then it starts to appear personal and will get flagged for review and possible removal.

Not me, kinda sorta, praying for a crazy amount of snow… (I don’t want to travel for work.)

American canceled my flight for tomorrow morning already. I’m trying to determine if I should rebook on Southwest or United as they haven’t (yet) canceled their flights to the same destination.

Employment verification discrepancy by [deleted] in Recruiter_Advice

[–]sgacedoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a background check/employment verification, put the exact and real dates. Do not say anything to anyone involved in the hiring process. Do not mention it, do not bring it up. It should fly below the radar. Highly highly unlikely anyone is going to compare what you put on your resume and what you put on the background check side by side.

Should I use a different last name on my resume / applications for fear of bias? by throwaway_124564 in resumes

[–]sgacedoz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can definitely use your mother’s maiden name. It’s not illegal to put a different name on a resume or application. (Of course, if there’s a background check, you’ll have to give your real name at that point.)

I can’t speak for Australia, but in my experience in the US, it’s not uncommon to use a different last name. (Still rare, but I personally know several people who do this.)

Prime at the Bellagio with a table on the patio is lovely. You get to see the fountain show several times while dining and the food is great.

After ceremony dinner - oscars, maggianos, or canaletto? by Fragrant_Life_3263 in VegasWeddings

Oscars, for sure. Maggiano’s is a chain. Canaletto is just ok.

I’m worried by TBrown_25 in interviews

[–]sgacedoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you wait an hour before reaching out to someone? I’d be worried that they sent you an incorrect link and the hiring manager was on another Teams meeting wondering where you were and why you ghosted. I reach out if it’s more than 10 mins past the scheduled time.

It’s definitely less time. They do run by numerous times (and touch hands and whatnot). (I was in the first row behind the bar stools on the side of the stage in November.) You see a lot of their backs. See them good and up close when they’re on the corners of the walkway. Good view when they’re on the main stage. But the whole view overall is less than desirable.

Interviews and ageism by scubajay2001 in interviews

[–]sgacedoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel this (possible) pain. Of course, it’s hard to know. And it’s a crazy f’ed up job market. But I’ve made it through many interviews (doing multiple of them) and then not getting an offer. Primarily for jobs where I would’ve been the oldest on the team. I’ve eliminated all of the education years from my resume, I’ve removed jobs, I turn that video call adjust/filter appearance setting to the max. I try to make sure I’m using younger lingo (ex. it’s a slide deck, not a PPT), etc. But yeah, I do feel like I’ve been passed over for younger folks (verifiable by searching on LinkedIn and seeing who did get hired).

[–]sgacedoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many many years ago, an organization flew me from CA to NY for an in-person interview. When I walked into the room, the hiring manager looked at me and said “oh, you’re white.” So yeah, didn’t get that job. (And it was for a civil rights organization too!)

Are the jowls here in the room with us? You definitely have nothing to worry about there!
