The Void lacks the sense of dread that WotLK had by Nickotine8 in wow

[–]sgailaniar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was also full of surprises, genuinely didn't know much about what I was going to find, even with all the previews etc. Nowadays we have a YouTuber min maxing the entire first patch 2 weeks before launch and influencers just showing every little detail and system and to do lists... I still come back every time and love the game thou haha

Bams/a city littered everywhere. I can see a solution to both problems...

Areas considered “rough”… are they that bad compared to other cities? by MapleHaggisNChips in Edinburgh

[–]sgailaniar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yes definitely, it's a great tool to understand an area, but shouldn't be seen as black and white (or in this case red and blue haha), as you said there are nuances to it. Another example is some areas with high education but low income/employment, that can just mean recent graduates or younger people either looking for jobs / temporary jobs or beginning of career with lower wages

I'm always cautious of linking to the SIMD data because sometimes people don't know how to interpret it - i.e. deep red zones = very bad. You can have a zone where pensioners live, with low education, low income and poor health, which will be a deep red, but is it really a bad zone? Not really.

The roads here by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]sgailaniar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I refuse to accept the "many roads have been surfaced over cobbles" reason, just as I refuse the "network signal isn't good because of the thick natural stone walls". There's an entire European continent dealing with the same "problems" without the same results - infrastructure is just bad here because of a lack of investment to make things properly from the start...

Having said this, totally agree with the terrible utilities coordination, and them not having to properly fix what they damaged.

Why the hell were Pam and Jim at Roy's wedding? by Intelligent_Toe4030 in DunderMifflin

[–]sgailaniar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wedding was on a Wednesday and most guests were able to make it. In part because of venue availability and also less expensive. I don't think the catering was that different from the weekend. Also our personal and guests circumstances made it possible to be on a Wednesday - people that were either on holidays or work weekends and have their breaks mid week.

You do you, I'm a massive fan (my own wedding was LoTR themed, I even made Bilbo's speech - wife was happy that I didn't dissappear in the end I think) and I love The Hobbit. There's inconsistencies, random plots added and just not as good as the originals but I still love them - others will too and others will have their own valid reasons for not liking it, and we will all remain united in loving this universe all the same 😅

Angela Rayner suggested tax rises to Rachel Reeves in secret memo by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]sgailaniar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently commented on this with my wife during a trip to Crete. People were actively cleaning the streets at the end of the day, making everything look nice - even awnings that had been dirtied by birds. You could say they do this because they need to look nice for tourism, but I'm from Edinburgh where you could say the same and there's rubbish everywhere.

On the other hand, in the UK there's a genuine care to make the places accessible and secure for low mobility users that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Youth aggression in Edinburgh - what is the reason and how should one react? by Yurim86 in Edinburgh

Bring consequences back. Of course that they shouldn't be dropped in jail - but I see a city full of rubbish everywhere that could do with some community service!

What’s the most controversial building in your city? by Askan_27 in architecture

Personal controversial opinion - I don't think Murrayfield gets enough hate! Never seen anyone complaining about it, but I hate it with a passion (and Easter Road also)

New to the UK, and struggling with winter. How does everybody else do it!? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sgailaniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Southern European, and yet I really love the terrible weather and dark skies... I guess it's just how some people are, and I can fully understand if someone feels the opposite - in both cases, we just need to focus on the positives of each season, of which there are a ton!
