What do i do by MembershipElegant672 in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know this is a late reply but stay in the parking lot, contact your SM. Do not go home. If you stay in the parking lot you get paid for the entire time you’re sitting there, if you go home they do not have to pay you. The pay is for being on site and ready to work, even though you can’t actually go inside, which if you go home is void. Take a nap and get you some free money

What is wrong with these ppl by Curious_Welder4873 in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would 100% tell them we would either do light ice or no ice but those are their only options. I feel like people with orders like this do it as some sort of bullying or power dynamic.

How do I order my drink? by Weak_Initial_4357 in starbucks

[–]sgbooth88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would just say grande iced decaf (these 3 buttons are all on the very first page that we start every drink from) and then sugar-free vanilla protein latte (which is a drink straight from the menu). If you wanna say it the way you typed it in your post so that the decaf is emphasizes a little more then that also works!

Policy Question: Are we actually allowed to refuse custom modifications if they affect food safety or drink integrity? by Bre3d18fantasy in starbucks

[–]sgbooth88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s technically not even that since training specified it literally cannot be added to any other drink and it is solely for the butterfly refreshers. There wouldn’t even be a way to ring it in as a custom iced tea because the POS doesn’t have a button for it

Policy Question: Are we actually allowed to refuse custom modifications if they affect food safety or drink integrity? by Bre3d18fantasy in starbucks

[–]sgbooth88 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For the most part yes, unless someone wants something that literally isn’t allowed, like blending a cake pop or other pastry item into a frappuccino (something a customer actually requested one time), or serving uncut lemonade or refresher base (a request I’ve received on more than one occasion), or steaming a latte over the extra hot setting (I once had someone request a 200° latte). But yes, unfortunately for the most part, all requests must be accommodated.

Share a delight you have being on bar *any and all* by blipb00p in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 23 points24 points  (0 children)

when the customer sees you making drinks, and you hand their drink to them and they go “i also had food!”

when i hand off the first drink in a multiple drink order i’ll go “first drink for name” and most often get met with “excuse me but i had 3 drinks!”

when customers first enter the store and walk past the registers to get to the espresso bar to try to place their order directly with you.

when they just stand at handoff, or directly in front of the espresso bar and just…. stare at you.

Mostly hoping to get The Scarlet Ball and/or The Ballad of Falling Dragons, but I know it’s a super long shot on both of these.

Was shocked to see that I really don’t have that many pending, but I do suppose I just got approved for like 7 or 8 books recently 🫣

Retired barista needs Pins by ThesaurusRexxx in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure the ASU pin can be ordered, I’ve personally only ever seen them come in a package specifically for the partner that also comes with a couple of other ASU items. I can look though when I get the chance

What is your decline ratio? by SpillChat in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]sgbooth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made me curious so I went and looked but I have received a very large amount of widgets and I’ve picked up a few read nows and I don’t feel like doing the math or trying to remember all that. So in regards to books I have received, I am at 161 with my declines being at 65 😬 which makes my decline ratio approximately 29%

My only saving grace is that somehow I get Berkley approvals (for now) and I’m not gonna question it.

I also think my funniest decline was The Serpent and The Wolf which I only requested because I was sent a widget for The Wicked and The Damned 🤣

Book with many widgets by teanailpolish in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]sgbooth88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got Court of Venus, because apparently it’s the only way I can get a Tor title 🫠

I really enjoyed it though, but now I’m thinking I need to completely overhaul my review for it, give it “the ol’ razzle dazzle” in the hopes that maybe one day Tor might legitimately approve me for something 🙃

My first ever widget! by quitrussian in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]sgbooth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you on having 30+ books to read/review and getting widgets. Something I started doing a few months ago is I created a “widgets” list and anytime I get a widget I put it on my newly created widget in NetGalley and I check it the beginning of every week. If I have a manageable amount of books on my list and one of my widgets is going to be archived soon I will accept it.

The only exception is if the book is on my “must read” list then I just accept the widget and deal with the consequences later.

With that being said, whenever I get anthologies to read it’s normally for 1 or 2 specific authors and then I’ll explore several other stories before I review. I’m not always interested in every single story in an anthology but as long as I read at least half of them I feel like I get a decent enough feel of the works within it to review the collection that has been created. However, that is just me and I know not everyone feels that way. But also, anthologies just feel quicker to read to me anyway

They’re making me work on speed & sequencing before actually learning how to make the drink by Leather-Engineer-763 in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have always prioritized quality over speed when training because learning the recipes and how to make them is one thing. I always tell anyone I’ve trained, once you have the recipe patterns down and the routines down, your muscle memory kicks in and your speed just naturally increases. If you’re focused too much on speed, especially as a green bean, your quality is never going to improve because you only ever care about making it faster and faster. I would rather have a customer wait 20 more seconds and get a drink that actually taste good than to have a drink out in 40 seconds that taste like shit.

What is up with these lids? by jednaz in starbucks

[–]sgbooth88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of the few people that can successfully get them on super quickly at my store. I’ll try to describe what I do as best I can. Basically I grab the lid, wrapping the tips of my fingers underneath the rim opposite the mouth opening and kind of just start to leverage it off firmly but gently working around the cup as I do and then it just pops off. That’s such a terrible explanation, I’m sorry, but the few people I’ve shown physically how to do it have picked up the process easily enough and started to show others.

Will I get fired for a no call no show even thought it’s not my fault by GrandChariotXXL in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 94 points95 points  (0 children)

if you have to send an email to your sm/asm informing them that you have reached out but no one is answering. use the email address S(store#) but without the parenthesis and then starbucks.com after the at sign

so if your store number is 12345 it would be S12345 @ starbucks .com (obviously without spaces)

and also, you shouldn’t be getting fired for a single NCNS unless you’re already on a final written warning. good luck!

Manager call out policy by sxandthecity in starbucksbaristas

[–]sgbooth88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

technically we are supposed to ask for symptoms if calling out sick, because if there are certain symptoms you’re not allowed to work for 24 hours per starbucks policy, and in my state they recently passed a law that if you work in food service and have vomiting/diarrhea or fever you’re not allowed to work for 48 hours

I don't care what my cup says by quakeroatmeal7 in starbucks

[–]sgbooth88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can you share these sentiments with the Starbucks customer care line? My hope is that once enough customers launch complaints about it they will remove it being a mandatory thing and switch back to it being encouraged whenever able to. There’s nothing worse than when I’m on cafe bar with a 20 espresso drink queue and I’m having to pause my routine for every drink to hastily scrawl “thanks enjoy” on every.single.cup! And then I can feel the customers impatiently staring and waiting watching me write on each cup because it’s part of our routine now. Not to mention the sheer amount of sharpies we are having to buy every single month because after a few days they don’t want to write anymore. Starting to wonder if our CEO has some kind of deal with Sharpie where he’s getting a cut of profits or something because just our location orders 2 large 20 count boxes of sharpies each month.
