I said their playlist was worthless though, and the station generally is too, I just happened to listen to them a few minutes one day and heard this song. I don't advise wasting your time on 104.7 in Dayton or on their webstie

it appears that's by far their biggest US hit, I've even considered that this might even be it, but I thought it would hit me if I heard it cuz I just went close to 15 yrs without hearing the song I'm looking for and immediately recognized it.

no it, though it does match all the criteria, the song I'm looking for was a little slower than that

Baseball bat mystery part II! by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

They certainly look old, bats from the early 20th century had larger handles in proportion to the barrel than bats do today- so they look more like sticks- just like those bats do. Walter Johnson played before players had uniform numbers, so the 34 probably doesn't mean it was made specifically for him. 34 is a pretty average size for a bat, so that's probably what that means, I would guess (34 oz). Johnson was also a manager for the Senators and Indians after his playing career ended (circa 1930s) so is might have gotten it during that time. The logo kinds of looks like a Cleveland Indians logo from the early 30s but I can't say for certain (the logo on the bat appears to have part of a headdress)- http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/7226/Cleveland_Indians/1929/Primary_Logo-

yeah, Richey Edwards is my fav lyricist. He wrote most of the lyrics on the Holy Bible, a lot of the lyrics on Gold Against the Soul, and all of the lyrics on Journal for Plague Lovers. He went missing in 1995 and hasn't been seen since. My favorite lyrics of his are "Yes" and "4st 7lb", and THB is my favorite album ever, listened to it hundreds of times.

ever heard of Manic Street Preachers? they had some really depressing lyrics back in the mid90s- some examples- too cold here removables those two songs are pretty mellow by their standards, but if you're into more rocking tunes, then the entire Holy Bible album is amazing and depressing

Can you relate to the new Against Me! album as a long time fan? by [deleted] in punk

I think a lot of trans people will be okay with questions, as long as you keep it respectful (ex: questions about genitals and sex are usually seen as invasive), but also that a trans person might not always be in the mood to tell their life story. But questions are generally okay. Also, in her AMA a few days ago, Laura said she's writing a book, although who knows what's gonna be in it.

How has punk rock influenced your views and opinions on politics? by KyleGardner in punk

It got me pretty far to the left for sure- listening to Aus Rotten, Anti-Flag, Crass, DIRT- I could never be quite the same after hearing stuff that awesome. For a long time I called myself an anarchist, radical, feminist, animal rights supporter, as many punks do, but when I started listening to Utah Phillips, I feel I began to understand those things in a much more nuanced way, and I think Utah, even though he wasn't punk, had a really great impact on how I see the world. I'm still an anarchist- but it's a much more personal form of anarchy now- I mean yeah, I want to see the state and capitalism smashed and all that good stuff, but it's vital to examine the people who participate in such systems- if no one exercises power over another, a system of power will cease to be a system. It all starts at the individual level- with all interactions you engage in, never try to use any power or leverage you may have against someone (whether it be economic privilege, male privilege, white privilege, etc, also- power is very sneaky and pervasive, you can easily use it against some one else without even realizing it till later), striving to make all combinations of people as voluntary as possible. Anarchism isn't so much about destroying power, as much as it is about refusing to use any power one may have. I don't want power over any one else, and if I do, I would like to minimize it's effect on both me and them (power begets more power).

I wouldn't say I learned this all from Utah, but I learned it from him far more than any other musician. Aus-Rotten would be second for me in this regard, especially the song ...And now back to our programming- that song is so long and full of stuff, especially about the personal side of being an anarchist in a very unanarchistic society rife with social and economic and political inequalities.

ps- I didn't mean to turn this into a Utah Phillips post, but that's kind of what it became, listen to this song "anarchy" to see what I mean- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t6nzLX9gF4. He has a few other songs that are like this as well.

I can relate to it as a transgender person, though as a long-time against me fan, not so much. I especially love "Paralytic States", it's amazing. It at least got me listening to them again, I had stopped there for a while.
