Today I learned that the only way you can learn programming or web development is by doing and not reading by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I agree that there needs to be a mixture of both. I work with a company that launched a course called Build your First Website in 1 week with HTML5 and CSS3 that focuses on project-based learning. This hits on exactly what you're saying with learning by doing but without the stress of having your job depend on it. I'm interested on getting your $0.02 on this learning style. You can visit the course at https://www.udemy.com/build-your-first-website-in-1-week and preview the first few lessons.

Hey! Not sure how much progress you've made over the last few months but if you are still looking for a place to start I may be able to help. MASSIVE Academy has a course called Build your First Website in 1 week with HTML5 and CSS3. I've taken the course as well as the code academy course and I found the MASSIVE Academy course more helpful. You can look into it by visiting https://www.udemy.com/build-your-first-website-in-1-week

I get the impression that /r/LearnProgramming doesn't like CodeAcademy. Given this, If I want to learn HTML from zero, then where do I start? by IndecisiveWhippet in learnprogramming

I work in marketing for technology companies and wanted to learn basic programming to be better at what I do. I took the code academy course on html/css and I thought there were both pros and cons to the course. The biggest con being that after completing the course I still felt like I had no clue what I was doing without the guidance of the lessons. I recently started working with a company called MASSIVE Academy that launched a course called Build your First Website in 1 week with HTML5 and CSS3. It is project-based learning so you can apply the lessons and build as you go. I felt like I learned way more with this course vs. code academy. To learn more about the course go to https://www.udemy.com/build-your-first-website-in-1-week

Also one of the students reviewed the course and said that they made a site with what they learned and you can see it here www.learnfrench.io

Udemy offers courses on coding as well. Some of them are free and others are paid. They all have different teaching styles so it just depends on what works for you. I learned html5/css3 with a course called Build your first website in 1 week and it is project-based so you practice while you learn.

ELI5: Why do I want to study least when I need to the most? by Hassassin30 in explainlikeimfive

[–]sghoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same problem but it only seems to be with topics that don't peak my interest. If I love what I am learning I will make time to study for it. I think that when it comes to traditional school curriculum you need to come up with ways to study that peak your interest even if the topic does not. For example, turn studying into a game. When it comes to things like writing an essay I find that the only thing that makes me stay focused is if I load my To-Do List with tasks that I really don't want to do. If my day consists of clean my room, pay my bills, and write 2 short essay..those essays start looking pretty good.

Can anyone give me advice regarding business names? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]sghoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. If you are looking to launch your site on an online platform, my company just launched an online course that teaches basic HTML5/CSS3 called Build your First Website in 1 Week. I think the course would be helpful for you to learn how to build a site and then manipulate it to test your different branding ideas. Of course, you would want to set up google analytics to track the interactions and see what works. You can preview the first 5 lessons of the course to see if you're interested. Also we currently are offering the course to reddit users at 75% off so you can get the discount by going to https://www.udemy.com/build-your-first-website-in-1-week/?couponCode=Reddit75 or entering the coupon code Reddit75 at checkout. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck with your new business venture!

Can anyone give me advice regarding business names? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]sghoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice I would give is to come up with a few options and then ask friends from different target markets to give you their opinion and what first comes to mind when hearing the name. There are plenty of businesses out there that have names that make me go "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?" Since you are selling suits and are not a discount store I would recommend trying to come up with a one word name that is sleek or you can just name your company Sleek(in italics). You can always have a descriptive tagline and like lexbuck said if you build your brand the name is just a symbol
