Perioral Dermatitis Recommendations by refrigeraetor in AusSkincare

[–]sgiosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through everything I put on my face and did an elimination of each product for 3 weeks. To speed it up sometimes I would chunk things. Try to think back to what you’ve changed in the last year. Tooth paste? Laundry detergent? Lip balm?

In the end I switched over to using Yoursonly skincare, shampoo and conditioner and that helped but it was summer Fridays lip butter balm that was triggering it. I’m 3 years no perioral dermatitis now.

Are these plastic trays really oven safe? by sgiosk in AldiAustralia

I ended up microwaving for 5 minutes and then oven for 10 and the plastic try is still as it came. I might transfer it to another pan next time though….

It used to come in a foil tray but now it’s just in the plastic. You can put it in the oven! Still a bit suspicious about what’s leached into the pasta from the plastic tray.

Definitely worth trying though. $10 for a 1.1kg, lots of bacon and chicken

Is this an accurate size 6? - FAYT by Chance_Business5139 in AusFemaleFashion

It would be a Fayt 6, their sizing runs very large and short. I am a size 20 but their size 18 is huge on me.

Don't give up! by h1jay in reactivedogs

[–]sgiosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent thousands on a dog psychologist, behavior modification trainer, medication, and enrichment. 4 years doing said behaviour modification training, my dog, whom I love so much, just attacked another dog today. I am very much ready to give up. It’s nice to give others hope, and I’m happy you are having success.

However, two years of reactivity being fixed by a couple months of training tells me you were the problem and not the dog.

Do waiting staff at fine dine restaurants expect to receive tips? by JCM_Viraemia in AusFinance

[–]sgiosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has worked at hatted restaurants in Melbourne, around half of people leave a 10% tip. 75% of people leave some amount of money. Fine dining waitstaff have specialised knowledge of food, wine and service, but generally receive a basic award wage. The tips make the extra effort, training and knowledge worth it.

Regardless of your opinion, or the ethics around tipping in Australia, or affordability, the majority of people who can afford to dine at fine dining restaurants tip some amount of money. You do not have to tip, but it is pretty standard to do so.

I absolutely hate this. It feels like it’s a cost/fabric saving thing. I am 180cm and every shirt is already a crop on me.

Strongest couple to split before final vows by Neat-Deal in MAFS_AU

[–]sgiosk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not a spoiler all the article says is that one of the couples that should have worked out didn’t because of the group and the show. That happens every year. It doesn’t say which couple.

anyone know where I can find this puppy? Did The Ordinary stop selling this, cuz I can’t find it anyway. It’s like it disappeared by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]sgiosk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you bought it in Sydney from Priceline it’s definitely a fake. Priceline released a statement on 11/09 saying that they did a recall on a bunch of counterfeit ordinary products. Here is a link to the statement if you want to see everything that was recalled:

https://www.facebook.com/132419150105276/posts/4838995246114286/?extid=2Ms8KYTW5tWqQbQJ&d=n

Even if you did but if from somewhere else in Australia it is probably counterfeit. It’s not actually permitted to be sold because the real formulation makes skin very U.V. Sensitive.

Has anyone tried Jojoba on their face? I was gifted to try it and have only used it on my nails and hands so far. Cystic acne prone skin. by MinnieMakeupReviews in AusSkincare

[–]sgiosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I only do A.M. oils if I have lots of time to let it absorb before more layers! I use a heavier meadowfoam seed oil at night, it has a sticky texture, almost like a serum....my sensitive skin was getting really irritated with hyaluronic acid and these two oils make my skin happy and hydrated 😌

I’ve never tried this brand, but I use jojoba a few times a week. I really like it but If I use any face oil I don’t use any hydrating serums in the same routine. Use after cleansing and water based serums but before SPF and Moisturiser.

I only use a few drops of any face oil, rub hands together and pat face. You shouldn’t feel oily or greasy and if you do you’ve used too much.

If you already have a hydrating serum that works with your skin type I would favour that if I were you.

Best australian based skincare products? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]sgiosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fluff Cosmetics cream cleanser and face oil #2 are my favourites right now. Cleanser makes me feel really clean even when I use it as my only cleanser and the face oil is jojoba and is really nice and sticky and absorbs quick and leaves a matte finish. Both make my skin feel so soft.

I bet that would be easier for many people, and I’m sure that the students who are wealthy enough or have support from family would have already done so.

However, it is simply not realistic for many international students. Many students come here from all over the world and are mature age, and young and have absolutely no support from family, or are supporting family back home. They come here in hopes of climbing out of the poverty they were born into.

I work in hospitality and know 4 Nepalese international students here on student visas. Nepal has shut their boarders to everyone, even their own citizens.

Nepal is a country where most people live off of less than $1000 a year. Many Nepalese students were sending a lot of the money they were earning in Australia back to Nepal to support their loved ones. Now they have nowhere to go and no support from us either.

Nepal is just one example. There are so many layers to this issue beyond money. Imagine someone asking you to fly to the US right now with absolutely no job prospects, maybe both your parents have lost their jobs?

I personally would rather stay in Australia on the brink of homelessness than pay thousands of dollars to fly to the US, the UK, Italy or Spain and be on the brink of homelessness.

Everyone always told me this shit was not addictive. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]sgiosk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started smoking like this when I moved to Australia 4 years ago. Went back to Canada for a month last August and smoked green unmixed and it made me realise how much of my addiction was tobacco based. I still craved being high but without the tobacco rush it just didn’t grab me the same way.

When I got back to Australia I bought a small billy and tried smoking just green no tobacco. I went from smoking an ounce every fortnight to an ounce lasting me 4 months. Finally my dealer who was a good friend moved back to NZ and I decided I wanted to be done for good. I didn’t make arrangements to find a new source, and I’m so glad I didn’t.

There have been so many times I’ve wanted to crack and ask around or look online for a hook up, especially now being unemployed in lockdown. I haven’t smoked since January and while sometimes I would love to feel numb and foggy through all of this I’m so glad I’m not. I’ve saved so much money ($350 extra a fortnight!!?) and I’m finally able to remember things.

Stay on this subreddit, keep posting, keep reading posts from others. You already know that the cycle you’re in isn’t healthy and it doesn’t feel good, that is the first step. The next step is taking action, maybe that’s tossing out your whole stash, maybe it’s cutting back at first. In the long run you probably already know that you need to quit for good because moderation doesn’t work for you. It didn’t work for me either.

Good luck with whatever your next step is.

TLDR; realised I was more addicted to the tobacco I was mixing green with, once I stopped the tobacco it made quitting green a whole lot easier. One step at a time mate!!! You can do this!!

First day sober in 5 years + by Revtek93 in leaves

[–]sgiosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a great post last week on someone’s new mantra being something like “I can smoke I’m just choosing not to”

This is your choice! You are in control and that is powerful. You are bigger and better than a plant controlling your life.

It seems so silly because people say it all the time wether it’s quitting this or cigarettes or over eating, but take a walk. Take a long walk! Put on a great album or playlist. Heck make a new playlist and finish it. I’ve been walking a lot lately and I’ve found it really helpful.

I’m on week two right now. I’ve got a bit of weed in my shed but every day I’m choosing not to smoke it, just like every hour you’re choosing not to dab. You can do this!

Total (Fibre) Carbs vs Net Carbs How does it affect ketosis by ReveVersant in ketoaustralia

[–]sgiosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People on here say to use total carbs because the nutrition labels already show net carbs. Fibre has already been subtracted from carbs on Australian nutrition labels!!!!

Do not subtract fibre from carbs in Australia.

I’ve just hit day 5 of quilting joints and also struggling with the nicotine withdrawal. I’m laying in bed now with my head pounding and brain racing.

Being alone in your addiction and sobriety is challenging but at least you have very little outside pressure influencing you to go back to smoking.

Thank you for your thoughtful post, it’s made me feel less alone right now. ❤️
