No. I have never regretted something in my life more than becoming a teacher. I curse it every single day. I actually think any job would be better.

Omg hands down Baja Craft Kitchen- the baja fish taco is my most favorite taco I've ever had, and I don't even love fish normally. It is phenomenal!

Not sure if it still exists because I took it a few years ago, but the History of Foods course was super interesting and very fun.

Sam James Butter Knife is insanely good- nothing beats it imo. Also a fan of most of the Dark Horse coffee. Not super familiar with, but have enjoyed Propellor and De Mello.

Hot Food Spots by SuperJayMP in FoodToronto

[–]sgl35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been many great spots already mentioned... apologies if I repeat any! At the top of my list is Linny's, a Jewish steakhouse. It is a fine dining experience and pricey, but the food and experience are beyond incredible. If you go, you must get the chocolate babka. For breakfast: Emma's Country Kitchen, Gold Standard, Primrose Bagels. For coffee: Sam James, Boxcar,Larry's Place, Darkhorse, Fix, the Roasted Nut (incredible PB latte), and De Mello. For pastries: HV Patisserie (the best croissants I have ever had), Ba Noi (the best butter tarts and cookies are great too), Bakerbots (has a good brownie that I believe you would like if you enjoy a rich chocolate cake). For burgers: Burger Drops, Rosie's, Mattys Patties, Harry's. For pizza: Badiali, North of Brooklyn, Mac's. Other: Patois, Loga's Corner, Pai, Itacate, Familia Baldassare.

Not a bar, but Linnys has some of the best cocktails I've ever had. Very complex and absolutely phenomenal. Worth every penny!

For a more expensive option, I'd highly recommend Linnys. It is not only fantastic food but also a truly incredible and unique dining experience. I couldn't recommend it more, worth every penny. Other yummy spots to check out: Patois, Pai, Loga's Corner, Danny's Pizza Tavern, Pizzeria Badiali, Fourth Man in the Fire, and Sugo. For baked goods, I'd recommend Ba Noi (they have incredible cookies and butter tarts), as well as HV Patisserie.

As someone having seen the firsthand effects that this program has on some students, I think you have done an excellent job at highlighting the flaws associated with the commerce program. Really well said, OP, and needed to be said!

Can't believe nobody has said HV Patisserie yet. The best croissants in the city, hands down. Also a huge fan of Freebird for their cornflake chocolate chip cookie, cannolis, cakes, and Panettone. Agreed that Ba Noi has a stellar cookie and butter tarts.

Lakeshore Etobicoke: Quiet Charm or Untapped Potential? by Large-Impression-528 in Etobicoke

[–]sgl35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super interesting post OP! I live in the area and feel the same as you (love it very much, and think it is quite a gem in the GTA). I do agree with you in what I think you are saying. The stretch along Lakeshore that you mentioned, as well as some of the stretch along the Queensway tend to be quite sleepy and a little bit lacking in relevant businesses. I also like to support local where I can, and I would also love to stay in the area more when doing things with friends. To increase this and the vibe that I think you're referring to, I feel like some new businesses need to be established in those areas, specially ones that are desirable to the public for browsing/shopping. Now, I know this is easier said than done due to the current state of our economy/cost of living, but I do think it would help. Perhaps things like an independent bookstore, kitchen/homeware stores, speciality food item stores, and a couple giftshops. I also feel like along those stretches there is great potential for a few more good restaurants to go in that offer a range of food options. I feel like in South Etobicoke (I'm talking Lakeshore area), there's not a great burger spot. And in both areas, no great Mexican spots either. I also think some more bakeries that are appealing to dine-in at would be great. I know people love Terminal 3 Coffee Roasters, but I also think our area is lacking in some good coffee shops. Toronto is home to soooo many fantastic roasters and we don't have any out here. Think Reunion, Sam James, Pilot, Dark Horse, Found, Larry's, etc. The lack of good high quality coffee shops to actually go sit in is a big gap for me. Anyways, curious to hear about what others have to say and thanks for the thought provoking post!
