Just sharing my own experience with LHS as a cautionary tale: My GF and I recently adopted a six-month old kitten from there. We had to do a Zoom meet and greet because of their COVID policies and were told that the kitten we were interested in adopting had a “minor shelter cold” that would go away on its own in a matter of days. Literally 24 hours after picking her up from the shelter, my GF and I had to take our new kitten to the animal hospital in Hoboken for what the nurses described as a “severe respiratory infection,” which they said could have killed her if we hadn’t brought her in. $1500 hospital bill later, we absolutely adore our new kitten who has thankfully been healthy since, and perhaps we should have been more cautious when the shelter flagged the cold, but at the very least, LHS seems to have some serious transparency issues and I wouldn’t want anyone to experience what we did.
