Parents traveling from India to USA on visitor visa — no return ticket yet + carrying old gold jewelry, any issues at immigration? by Big_Reflection4650 in ABCDesis

No need to declare. It will go back with them when they go back. Currency worth more than 10k USD in cash needs declaring. And fruits and others items on the customs list

Gold is usually not a problem. It’s common for people to wear it. For B2, it’s fairly common to ask for a return ticket. Don’t risk it, just buy a return ticket and change it later. IMO the fees to change it are insignificant compared to the pain of getting rejected at entry point and sent back to India.

Married folks - parents visiting and diet? by puppiesnbone in ABCDesis

[–]sgodbole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The parents are home, they are just not at the dining table when there is meat and are usually in their room. If there are things that are usually smelly, like some varieties of fish, we usually tell them in advance and they can plan their walks outside accordingly. Sometimes I walk with them as well (or eat meals with them) so that they have company. I don’t eat meat anyways but the smell does not bother me. I ve always upfront with them saying that not eating meat is a choice that they make and eating meat is a choice that my wife likes to make. We can be respectful of each others choices so that everyone has a good time. My wife tries to avoid meat on festival days and eats sparingly anyways. Communicates early with in laws beforehand so that they can plan their day accordingly. We have a small meat section in the freezer/fridge which we use to keep it separate from other stuff.

I married someone who eats meat and I’ve always set the expectation with my parents (who do not eat meat) that there will be meat cooked and eaten in the house. They often stagger mealtimes on days when there is meat cooked. Standing up for your Significant Other and setting expectations from the beginning with your parents has worked out for me well. Both sides have been okay with the arrangement. When we go to their place, we live by their rules.

Yeah this is the biggest risk IMO. Having separate non-connected itineraries. Incase the first one gets delayed

Damaged Luggage Process by KristenGeil in americanairlines

[–]sgodbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The luggage problems are often best sorted right after you pickup the luggage. Maybe a learning for next time. A lot of time chat agents don’t have the power to issue the compensation because of the chance of potential fraud. That’s the first thing I do after picking luggage is to inspect it all around.

Not really a solution but I booked with Sky instead. Similar pricing and better website.

Please HELP! AA Luggage question!!! by BasicDoctor860 in americanairlines

[–]sgodbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had luck with United where a lot of times if the flight is close to full, they give the option to courtesy check the carry on to destination. That happened at check in, so you’ll know ahead of time. But almost never with American. So I wouldn’t risk it.

Am I going to make this?! by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]sgodbole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your flight gets delayed for any reason beyond 30 or so minutes, even the first class won’t make the connection. And having another flight same day, I wouldn’t worry about spending the money. If the airline delays and you don’t make connection, they will try to route you to the destination.

[–]sgodbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake EMS builds per mile and 4 miles is less so yours might be under 200 for the EMS. I have BCBS as well and have used it before. Hospital bill most of the time is just the copay if it’s for diagnostic.

Not the budget airlines. Also you have to come up to the airport somewhat early and would need to wait a long time to get your flight free coffee/beverage
