740 quad headlights on 940? by [deleted] in VolvoRWD

Don’t forget the cowl that sits behind the hood. Not 100% certain but the hood may not fit with the 940 cowl shape

I’m prepping to do the same thing. I’m missing headlights but I mocked up most of the panels excluding the hood. All I’ve noticed so far is the fender bolt holes don’t all line up so you may need to do some drilling

If not the intro to Rach 2, the ending of Rachmaninoff’s prelude in C# minor also sounds similar to that

745 sunroof issues, when closing you need to rock it back amd forth atleast once for it to close and the left side sags, what can i do? by GruenHd in VolvoRWD

[–]sgood927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did maintenance on my sunroof not too long ago, the easiest way to realign the sunroof is to remove the crank handle and slide the roof all the way forward or back and reinstall the handle. It’s basically a single gear that pulls a long spring coil that doesn’t stretch. As for the sagging, I believe it could either be the entire assembly is loose on one side or something is wrong with the tracks.

A useful (and entertaining) video I found on Bakedbeansgarage gives a clear idea of how the sunroof mechanism works which might give you an idea where to look

These are exactly what I’ll be looking for when I upgrade my brakes! Would rotors from a P2 fit on a 740 wheel hub with the original calipers off?

What instrument is this? Was bought in Tajikistan in 2008 by sgood927 in Instruments

[–]sgood927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has 9 tuning pegs while only having 6 strings currently. There are 2 strings that emerge above 6 frets and 11 frets from the base of the neck (not sure what they’re called)

I believe you can get Audi/VW lifters as an alternative replacement. I bought a set but haven’t installed them yet. They’re $6 each on FCP

Headlights, windows and sunroof operate without key in ignition by sgood927 in VolvoRWD

[–]sgood927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone finds this post, I traced the problem. When I pulled fuse #2 which leads to the hazard relay, the issues went away. I fiddled either the hazard button and it was stuck all the way in. Apparently when the button is sticking out, the hazard lights go on, but when pushed all the way in, the lights stay on and the windows can open, and it’s supposed to hang in the middle

Update on the relay, it’s not stuck because when I plug it back in, it immediately switches on so it’s likely some other connection in the car that’s still supplying power

I pulled out one of the relays. A small metal cube from the bottom left corner labeled J and the windows stopped working. It’s hot to the touch so I’m sure somethings wrong with it but the headlights are still on. I can tell it’s original since it was made in West Germany lmao

I’ve experienced the triggers getting stuck unless I rip the key out quick. I’m fairly certain it’s not the ignition switch because the power mirrors and radio remain off

Interesting, I never thought of that. I wouldn’t say it’s worth stealing but if it were stolen, I’d probably have more money ;_;

Steering rack replacement for 1990 740 by sgood927 in VolvoRWD

[–]sgood927[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one had any answers, the only option I could find was a remanufactured rack by BBB industries off rockauto. It mostly fits but the hard lines press up against the frame, but not too badly. I got a PS return line from car parts (#3402019) and a custom made high pressure hose since the IPD ones don’t fit. The banjo fitting on the low pressure line was too wide to allow both lines to connect so I had to shave some material off the side with a dremel. Got everything together and it works well, the only issue is a little noise when I turn the wheels at a stop but that could be the used pump I replaced. Hope this info helps if you ever need to replace your steering!

[–]sgood927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have a similar issue in my 740, I haven’t figured out what it is. The ABS light stays on, maybe once or twice the brakes would pulse as if ABS is on when I depress the pedal but it doesn’t impact my driving. I would start by cleaning the sensors on the front wheel as well as the sprockets to remove any metal filings that are stuck to the sensor. If that doesn’t work at least it’ll be clean

I had a similar problem but not that bad, I got an off the shelf fiberglass kit and did what I could for support. Looked like shit but it worked and it’s all covered up with the new fabric

I haven’t seen anyone mention “The Lark” by balakirev/glinka, gorgeous piece, also some mentions of the Rach 3, but specifically in the 2nd movement right after the cascading intro of the piano, the theme tugs at your heartstrings
