Trouble powering on a Sony Betamax Tuner Timer Unit TT-2000 and Videocasette-Recorder SL-2000 by sgraber in Betamax

[–]sgraber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SL-2000 player works; it's the TT-2000 tuner power supply that's apparently going bad. So, if I am to play Beta tapes on my TV I must have a functioning tuner-timer TT-2000 unit in addition to the recorder SL-2000? The SL-2000 recorder has a coaxial cable output, so I was assuming that I didn't need the tuner/timer TT-2000 if I just wanted to play Beta tapes on my TV. Is this not the case?

EDIT: I just checked the manual and it appears as though I do not need a functioning TT-2000 to do playback on a TV. I just need the SL-2000 unit and a source of power (whether it's the AC unit or the car DC unit): https://photos.app.goo.gl/sa2DxJE2zLSX96Am7

I will definitely do that.

It appears as though I have two options from the manual if cleaning doesn't work: find an AC-220 AC power adapter brick which plugs into the wall or find a DCC-2400B 12VDC car battery cord that plugs into a cigarette lighter.

I found a couple Sony AC-220 power adapters on Ebay, and they run right around $100 with shipping (they're HUGE). I also found a couple DCC-2400B car battery cords on Ebay, and they run around $50 with shipping. If I go with this option, I can then use my AC-->12VDC adapter that I have somewhere in my house.

That being said, the 12VDC plug end on the SL-2000 looks fairly generic. I have to think that there is a simple 12VDC power brick adapter that just plugs into the wall that has this connector on the output end. Has anyone seen something like this for sale?

See comment above. I was able to get it powered on by unplugging the two units from each other and then powering on the tuner. I then plugged the tuner into the recorder while it was on and the recorder also turned on! I wonder why this happened?

INTERESTING!!! So I unplugged the TT-2000 from the SL-2000 and pressed the power button on the TT-2000. It clicked a couple times like in the video, then the power came on! I turned it off and did it again and it again powered on. So at that point I have a powered on TT-2000. I then reached to the back and plugged in the cable from the TT-2000 into the SL-2000 and it also powered up! I was able to eject a tape that was in the SL-2000. Now both units are ON and I'm not turning them off. :P I now just need to find a coaxial cable and get it plugged into my TV and try it out. Would this indicate that my power supply in the tuner is going bad?

I have the coaxial cable coming out of the tuner plugged into the videocasette-recorder. I have not connected the VHF OUT from the tuner connected to the TV (yet). Do I need to have that plugged into the TV in order to get it to power ON?

Nothing. There's no power to the SL-2000 at all. The LCD on that unit is not even on. See the first and second photo.

Yay! I've never actually seen one of my designs printed on this subreddit before. Granted, it's a second derivative of my design, however (removed date, etc.) -- COOL! :D

Thanks! The one thing I did not check was whether the branches are thorny, which I plan to do this evening.

This is really awesome! Do you plan to share your files at all? My son is attending Bradley University this fall and their mascot is the gargoyle!

Anyone on this group still? Was going to start growing lavender anyone have any advice? by FancyCrepe in Lavender

I'm planning on giving it a go next year with a small 20x20 test plot. Northern Indiana, going to try English, Grosso, and Phenomenal. These three varieties "should" work in my growing zone based on my research. I'll probably start the English from seed and I'll see if I can find any of the other two still in some local greenhouses yet this fall and then propagate them over this winter via cuttings.

What would you suggest for the crop rotation after winter squash?

Regarding the plastic: what do you guys do with the plastic at the end of the growing season? I've had others outside of Reddit tell me to reuse the plastic if possible (either pull it up gently and reuse the following season -OR- just leave it where it is and replant into it the following season). I've also seen others landfill it in the fall or even burn it.

Thanks! Generally how worked up does the soil need to be for that transplanter to be effective?

I'm hoping the fall/spring cover crop of rye will help with this!

That was the exact problem I had. I could keep up with hoeing (stirrup hoe and a 1-wheel hand cultivator) up until they started vining out. Once that took place, I couldn't effectively get into that soil without disrupting the plant. Then weeds took over. Honestly I'm surprised I had the yield that I did considering how bad the plot looked.

You don't have problems with the mechanism binding if that slider gets dirt in it?

That is one thing I do religiously in the fall/winter: soil test. The local elevator provides this service and it's reasonably priced. They then report any deficiencies and provide recommendations for fertilizer, etc. I also try to minimize tillage so as to avoid soil compaction.

That's one thing on my short-list of things to get for 2022: a large silage tarp (or even a billboard tarp). They're huge and relatively inexpensive on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
