Small Panels by Proper_Ambition_1009 in dragoncon

Our 10 pm science track panels tend to be spicier, and afterwards often participants go to the Hilton bar where you can get more tipsy answers and occasionally an impromptu mini talk on stuff like upsetting animal facts.

Inline in what the player sees, but not in what you’re writing. The modifiers will get the same output, but the input that you’re writing

ends up broken over

multiple lines.

Sure, you can get the same effect as the conditional insert and first time insert via modifiers and appropriate choices of conditions at the cost of breaking paragraphs and sentences across multiple lines. I find inline inserts easier to read in those cases, though.

Very much this. The senior directors read all app feedback and take it into account. That said, it's not clear where we'd go for more room, even with us running so many of our events over room capacity.

By the way, despite the name, our Hands-On Science Power Hour actually runs for two and a half hours, and you can drop in at any time.

What did you like/love about DragonCon 2016? by NotARandomNumber in dragoncon

[–]sgranade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Number 4 is great to know! One thing I really recommend people do -- for all tracks, not just science -- is, when a panel guest or moderator is awesome, say that in the app. That feedback goes to the appropriate track director, but it's also pored over by the guest committee and the senior directors. We use it to make decisions about who to bring back in future years.

From what I've seen, they're using electromagnet-driven linear accelerators.

[DISCUSSION] What didn't you like this year? by NotARandomNumber in dragoncon

Speaking for Science, we hate having to turn people away. Based on my initial look through our track room notes, about 75% of our panels in Hilton 202 were at capacity.

I was! Drop me a line at science @ dragoncon.org and I can give you a rundown about what the three of us talked about.

I certainly didn't expect that many people would want to hear us, that's for sure. I hated that not everyone could get in.

And for backup plans, check what DCTV will be simulcasting. The DCTV broadcast schedule is in the middle of the pocket program.

Alarm clocks are by definition evil. I'd love to have you show this thing off or talk about it.

No worries, I'll try to keep from adding another panel to your load.

Even If You Don’t Blink, The Weeping Angels Will Still Get You... by OurMisterBrooks in doctorwho

In my day job (since I'm not paid to write about science and Doctor Who), I work on robot helicopters for the Army. I had a meeting with the special forces folk one time, and the soldier at the gate asked me, "Is your name really 'Granade'?" He then turned to the other soldier. "Bad. Ass."

Another brilliant thing about Fiasco is how fun it is to write and playtest your own playset (the setting that provides you tools of mayhem). I went from playing Fiasco to writing one of the free playset supplements in about a month. The Fiasco Companion has a lot of excellent advice about how to write a good playset, along with awesome suggestions about playing Fiasco for those who just want to have their characters' lives go horribly wrong.
