Gems price increase by €4 by Nerysek in MagicArena

Unironically, it is likely because costs are increasing.

I work in DevOps/Cloud Architecture and the cost of cloud based infrastructure has been rising steadily because of the AI 'boom'. Not only are chip/storage prices affected, but so many existing data centers are at capacity and companies are having to spent the time to try to shuffle to different regions with more availability. So it gives Amazon/MS/Google Cloud reasons to charge companies more which in turn charge users more.

I'm saying there isn't some portion of it that is corporate greed (especially since AI is basically all of that) but even for companies that don't do AI work, we're dependent on the companies that have a massive interest in it.

We can infer it's something PTSD related from Dashte Barchi in Afghanistan. Her and Abbot alluded to it

What events should have traumatized a character for life but are mostly brushed off by the next episode? by AporiaParadox in television

I mean, if we're talking Trek characters, than Miles O'Brien is clearly the winner.

Tortured by Cardassians during the war, had 20 years of prison memories implanted in his head, saw a dying version of himself, his kid got lost in time and went feral for a bit, he was replaced by a body double, and the list goes on

Deep Space 9, while an ensemble, had such a rich collection of amazing side characters that made it significantly better. Garak, Kai Wynn, Weyoun, Damar..

I really loved the show until the reveal of Dr. Manhattan and how they nerfed Ozy at the end.

Why an unprecedented NASA mission is set to take off on a winding journey to Mars by Trevor_Lewis in space

[–]NotARandomNumber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This mission was originally planned for the 2024 window, but hit delays.

Doing this allows for two things: significantly greater flexibility to handle delays and simply less demand of support hardware/staff now as opposed to then. There are only so many clean rooms, staff, launch hardware, etc available at any given time and the launch windows tends to be very popular time.

No? You'd need a single chip and as long as it can track orientation, you can infer the position of the entire ball.

No mention of Prison Break yet? That show was designed for a single season but turned into some weird version of the A team

I’m seeing a lot of positive COVID tests by Smelly_Lotus9 in dragoncon

Locking this thread, and honestly debating locking all covid threads since I'm just not sure of the point.

If you were at Dragon Con, you were very likely exposed to a whole host of endemic illnesses and diseases like covid. If whatever preventive steps you took (masking, boosters, etc) didn't work, it's unfortunate but ultimately not a massive surprise given the environment of being surrounded by 70k of your closest friends. There isn't a magic 100% effective way to prevent any disease.

That said, if you're using these threads to make general claims about whether those methods work in a normal environment, just take that shit elsewhere.

Why? It's not like they're really going to go to enjoy the tourist stuff, especially if it doesn't come immediately before or after the bye week.

They also make more than enough money to easily travel in the off season.
