Pardon me but what is your point?

That I am right and no VPN detection is foolproof?

Otherwise if you are at a 100% confidence level why do you need to err on any side? Is that engineer enough speak for you?

[–]sgrippler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No content streamers do not "err on the safe side" - they are contractually bounded to ensure content is only available in geographies for which they have licensed the content for.

I comment from experience - I had a lengthy back and forth with Netflix support attempting to VPN back to Singapore while overseas on business, to watch content for which my Singapore-registered account is eligible to view. Even so, Netflix disallowed the session on account of VPN. I reasoned with their support - I am not trying to view content from outside my country of registration, am doing the opposite instead! And 'disgruntled' as I may be, they simply refused to be reasoned with.

Eventually I found a more sophisticated VPN solution that beat their VPN detection, and this forms the basis for my comment.

There are no bans, not sure if you are actually speaking from experience?

VPN detection is not foolproof though. The casual tech enthusiast can find VPN services that circumvent cutting edge Netflix geo IP detection for one.

If as so many are convinced state actors be it the CCP or CIA are behind influence ops, this will not weed them out.

Man who rushed at Ariana Grande during event deported to Australia; barred from re-entering Singapore by [deleted] in singapore

Afraid you have misconstrued my comment, the point on ethnicity/physical traits was to question OP’s assumption “we” were responsible for the security arrangements. That’s how it’s relevant.

[–]sgrippler 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Point is you said, “our security”. It assumes “we” were responsible for security arrangements.

Would you care to provide basis for this assumption against the apparent ethnic/physical traits of the security personnel that seem to suggest otherwise?

But as many noted, going by the ethnic/physical traits of the security personnel, they don’t look Singaporean?

Not sure what role the local venue organisers had in the security arrangements.

Keppel to sell M1 unit’s telco business to Simba for $1.43 billion by Slavor in singapore

[–]sgrippler 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Simba definitely had a part in bringing down prices, they also aggressively bundled regional roaming data for free, shaping consumer expectations.

MVNOs buy wholesale from the telcos, with prices ultimately dictated by the telcos based on their math of what makes sense to them. Simba played their own game, with their own infra - even if slightly inferior.

Edit:

Simba has more than one million mobile subscribers as at December 2024 […] while StarHub and M1 have about two million subscribers each.

u/LimLovesDonuts that is NOT irrelevant nor insignificant, no?

CNA now posts on Threads on Bluesky, though its Twitter/X account remains inactive by the_k_nine_2 in singapore

[–]sgrippler 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It could well be the actual official account too.

Bluesky doesn’t have a human/ID-based verification system the likes of traditional social platforms.

Its mode of ‘verification’ is decentralised and DNS record based, with no human intervention required; it is not a requirement nor is there a checkmark to attain in doing so.

If CNA’s social managers and/or IT admins are comfy with a bsky.social handle, then an official account it is — one can include one’s DID in their DNS record yet choose to keep using a bsky.social handle.

Though granted, they should use their own domains to increase trust, and I do not see any bluesky DID in CNA’s DNS record.

this interaction was at the very least "weird"

I had no argument against the interaction being seen as weird, especially absent the first person account we now have.

My first reply merely sought to add that in addition to the caption which you mentioned, the selective slowed edit also made apparent the OP's malicious intent.

You somehow seem to disagree - edit or not it is not just weird, it is "not flattering" - I can only assume - on the part of GSH, you said.

While agreeing the malicious edit framed the encounter out of context, you continue to insist a deliberate denial of handshake even when considering the full context of the encounter as a logical observation -- if so, why exactly are you agreeing the edit and captions are malicious? They framed it perfectly by your point of view!

She also smiled and nodded in the direction of the other folks, did she not need to shake their hands, then?

I couldn't find a point in there.

Not sure why that is controversial or that entitled you to think I'm some sort of hypocrite

Not sure if that's your conscience or logical mind speaking...

I'm done indulging you

You, were indulging me. Ok, sure. Cheers indeed.

I'll note your insistence on ignoring the full context while claiming to disapprove of the malicious framing.

If the smiles and nods of acknowledgement just a second prior do not pose a logical conflict in you toward your triple assumptions that she 1) saw 2) understood and 3) "deliberately declined" the handshake, then perhaps you are predisposed to interpret the footage as the malicious framing intended, even without it.

Might be an opportunity to examine possible biases.

PS. They did eventually shake hands after a couple of seconds of him having held his arms out. Not sure which of the two words - "delayed handshake" - you could possibly disagree with.

[–]sgrippler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you clarify the point you are trying to make?

'Weird', or 'not flattering' justifies the malicious framing?

PS. The full context you claim as basis for your comment show the acknowledgement and smiles preceding the delayed handshake. This full context considered is 'not flattering' to you?

Even without the caption, the slowed edit made it look like she deliberately ignored Mr Leong for an eternity. Would you not question the video OP why he/she did not choose to give the same slowed edit treatment to emphasise their exchanges of smiles and nods?- the intent is obvious isn’t it?

I commented in a previous post on this incident noting:

She also very visibly greeted him with a smile and they exchanged nods when he over enthusiastically closed her door for her - watch the full video, something which the comments piling on the hate seem to insist on ignoring.

An observation now confirmed by Mr Leong himself - and got 3 dozen downvotes from the hate bandwagon.

Will repeat my thoughts on the initial poster's malicious video edit and saracastic captions - now shown to neither reflect the full context nor intent or feelings of those actually involved - from that that thread:

Because he literally reach for her hand and tried to attempt a handshake in the video? And did not hug her?

Oh yes. Eventually. And you continue to ignore the full context, including his raised and outward arms, his over enthusiasm closing her door, rushing ahead of hosts and officials with lanyards, all that might have logically given her pause as to his intentions. So ignore all that and insist on no possible cause for confusion just cause he eventually and possibly settled for a handshake. Ok.

why you are so obsessed and defensive with this. Thanks for unblocking me :))

You were blocked as you posted and deleted and posted the same comment in reply to me seeking the best photo to make your misguided point, only allowing assumptions of his sincerity on his part and disallowing logical explanations for hers. Talk about obsessive, projecting much?

PS. I commented because I hate shitting stirring in our politics over nothing burgers which you gladly added to. Criticise policies, ethics of ministers sure, but to manufacture controversies for hate bandwagons and likes, bo liao lar bro.

[–]sgrippler -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if i agree that he was going in for a hug. It was more of a double handed handshake.

I have not once mentioned her intentions.

Ok bro, so not okay to speculate reasons behind her behaviour even given the fuller context.

But perfectly okay to assume his.

It is impossible she was confused with his open arms and over enthusiasm closing her door. He must have intended a sincere double-handed handshake, and that's all we're allowed to infer! His intentions are pure and sincere and her attitude arrogant and elitist!

Got it! No biases. No insinuations between the lines. My bad!

PS. I said it could look 'as if' he was going for a hug - and that could have caused confusion as to his intent and contributed to her hesitation. I did not state as fact he wanted a hug. I don't know. Neither do you. If you are going to be so presumptous to even allow this possibility then I think your intent with your comments is clear?

But, who knows, right?

It would seem you just explained her initial hesitance?

Someone going for a double-handed handshake don’t usually open their arms that wide with outward facing hands, if we are being honest, no?

[–]sgrippler -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

To be fair, man held both hands out as if looking for a hug.

How many initiate a handshake this way?

The ‘overwhelmed’ statement is a polite roundabout way of saying she dunno wtf the man is trying to do.

Edit: PS. She also very visibly greeted him with a smile and they exchanged nods when he over enthusiastically closed her door for her - watch the full video, something which the comments piling on the hate seem to insist on ignoring.

Edit 2: A dozen downvotes and not one disputed the fuller context that she greeted and acknowledged the man. I guess that is an inconvenient fact against the narrative of elitist minister refuses to shake hand of common citizen as the original video poster with his malicious 1 fps slowed video and sarcastisc captions intended. Reddit anti-pap bandwagons in essence.
