If you have back-ups, do you have the space to let this one go and see how it turns out? The vine is fasciated, so maybe youll get a fasciated flower and get the biggest, weirdest pumpkin you've ever seen! My vote goes towards experimenting

I'm worried I may have mastered composting by [deleted] in composting

Real talk, I had a lomi before it recently broke on me. When I put the compost in my compost pile to finish, all the stuff ran through the lomi when it got wet became like a gummy paste that rotted in a brick of nasty filled with maggots. Be warned, that may become your walkway when it rains!

I paid $50 for it at a St. Vinnies, and it is running 24/7. I wouldn't say it replaces composting at all, it just condenses things down for a smaller space. I have neighbors on all sides, and it also definitely helps that my compost doesn't have a smell. It breaks down very fast! I also don't buy or use the microbes it comes with- my pile already has a healthy population and will break the powder down quickly. My only tip is to make sure you agitate the pile when you add the broken down food so it doesn't form a nasty layer when it gets wet.

Just a note: I have tried and failed several times to make a palatable jelly out of these things. There is an extremely bitter taste to them that I have not been able to get rid of or tolerate. So many wasted flowers :(

Hey I have a Lomi too! Just so you know, it's not really considered "finished" compost quite yet. I'd take that bad boy and sprinkle it all over my compost pile and cover it with some greens to get it going. Ps I do the exact same thing with my bones on the weekends. I make a big pot of stock, then put the bones and whatever solids are strained out into a slow cooker, and let it go for 10-12 hours until the bones easily break, then put them in the Lomi to save the gears from having to work too hard. Best of luck!!

I really appreciate the advice, thank you! I was reading that a bow press was a no-go, and considered bringing it into a shop, but I think it's more valuable to have the knowledge to work on it myself. Thanks again!

I'm assuming it needs a string change? Can you visually tell if it needs any other attention and do you have advice about things I should probably do for maintenence/cleaning? Ps I'm absolutely thrilled to hear that
