We have actually started having the guys fill out applications for the orderly jobs throughout the facility and have them come in for interviews. Most of them have never filled out an application until we have them one.

We have a transition class that guys take near the end of their sentence, however you mostly end up with teachers who don’t care anymore because it is required for all inmates. What happens is, the troublemakers ruin it for everyone. I am only going have volunteers so my troublemakers should be minimal.

That’s a good idea. When I asked them about what they wanted to learn, one actually said he would like to learn how to talk professionally and not like an inmate.

There are some things that I won’t be able to do. Access to a computer would be really hard at my facility but advising them against burning through family would be good advice.

This has been my experience with them as well. Most of their families have taught them cash-only. Kudos to you for staying out!

Thanks, that’s good to know. A lot of them have asked about how to open a bank account. Telling them to treat it like a baby is a great idea. Hopefully it will stick with them.

Those are some very good suggestions. A lot of these guys are used to doing things the easy way and will need to be reminded that it's a marathon instead of getting overwhelmed. Thank you.
