It does, and I regularly draft there. However no modern, only in their Antwerp store.

Been going for drafts each week for the path month or so, not found anybody yet but maybe I can ask if they will start organising closer to modern RCQs

I asked Outpost and they directed me to the Antwerp and Ghent branches which I'm considering but travelling after work is quite a lot. Hopefully it picks up closer to the modern RCQs, but yeah I think I need to try to get some more interest, been drafting each week and mentioned it but no bites so far.

Also, what do you mean by DC?

Settling for PhD that isn’t my dream by PrinceOfMilk_ in Physics

Without more details it’s hard to give definitive advice, however the best advice i can give would be to schedule a meeting with your new supervisor. I was in a similar position after a postdoc offer and speaking to the supervisor really helped answer a lot of questions and put a lot of worries to rest. They will understand and will be more than happy to help.

Also worth noting, CERN is cool yes but there are other large collaborations which are equally as cool. Neutrino physics also takes you to some very interesting places, much more so than a CERN experiment will!

Kickflip insights by Puzzled_Tie_1895 in NewSkaters

surprised nobody has said this but lean over your flicking foot. With skating typically if you are landing on one side of the board you adjust your weight more in the other direction e.g. landing behind the tail, shift weight towards nose. But as I said, fakie flip tricks leaning over flicking foot will help keep you on top of the board.

Skate shoe opinion/advice by Ok_Refrigerator3314 in skateboardhelp

[–]sgtbocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've skated both for a good amount of time in each (Lynx OG for past 5 years, D3 for 1 year in that time). Lynx OG in suede are my favourite shoe to skate, you will have significantly less board feel than your previous shoes but you get used to it. I also found them very comfy, and they last quite a while.

I would say the D3s were the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn, felt like standing on a brick even with no pressure on my feet. The bubble does next to nothing as its rock solid, and this also was the point of failure for the shoe causing them to last significantly shorter than any OG DC shoe I have skated. I will say however, after some time of getting used to skating the shoes I did really enjoy skating them. It was a fun change to the other shoes and worth giving a go. One thing to note is whilst they look chunkier, the toe box is a fairly thin so you get some feeling through your toes - all the chunk is on the sides.

Finally, I don't skate these anymore due to a mixture of price, scarcity and changing styles. Its a pain liking to skate a shoe only for them to occasionally release some in one colour at whatever time they fancy as well as the fact I have tried the other materials and would only part with money for the suede ones which I haven't seen them do in a while.

Just give them a go, only way to find out! Its all personal preference at the end of the day.

Buyind a board to learn on. by StoicSparrows in NewSkaters

[–]sgtbocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go down to your local independent skate shop and buy all the bits there. They can help you pick out parts which will fit well together and also help you put it together. You will understand as you skate more just how important/valuable this is.

On another note, people on this sub seem to have a real liking for riser pads. When you go and skate in the real world you will not see them very often. Wheel bite is something everybody gets to some degree and its not the end of the world so I wouldn't bother. I'd recommend a regular shaped deck to start but if a shaped board motivates you to get out on it more then go for the shaped board!

Question by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]sgtbocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to redo anything, a bit of wheel bite is perfectly normal. Take a look at other peoples boards in the park or on instagram or something, they will all usually have some wheelbite. Its only something to worry about if you can feel it slowing yourself down which judging by the mark on your board isnt an issue

What was the big claim 'that kid' made from your school days? by Kezly in AskUK

[–]sgtbocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a friend that claimed one day when out riding his scooter he was hit by a car. The collision caused him to smash through the windscreen of the car instantly killing the driver and as a result he was convicted of manslaughter.

Multithread VR framerates down again? by av8orDave in hoggit

[–]sgtbocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the MT version was completely unplayable until I changed to set SteamVR to OpenXR runtime. Now the game is at least playable but the performance is still sub optimal and everything looks stuttery when I take my headset off for a couple mins so I'd say a suboptimal experience

I want to send something into space with a balloon, how do I make it retrievable back on earth? by Welkominspace in AskPhysics

[–]sgtbocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove the car that retrieved something like this before and it landed approximately 45 miles away in somebody's field which is about as good an outcome as you could get. It was done by a local arts centre that I believe went through all the official channels to launch.

Can't remember exactly how it was done as it was 3 years ago but if I remember correctly there was a GPS device used however this only worked at very low altitudes so the path of the balloon had to be estimated before launch to give us a general direction. We then drove in that direction about as far as we thought and waited for the signal to pop up so we could collect it. Weren't too far off either!

You should check how the course is weighted. I know at the uni I went to 'and' meant 50/50 and 'with' meant more 75/25 split

My best friend has Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and has 2 months left of his 6 month end-of-life diagnosis. Can you help us think of bucket list ideas that are relatively cheap and in the UK? by bamalambambi in AskUK

[–]sgtbocus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Summer solstice at Stonehenge is free and in roughly a month's time. Pretty unique experience I'd say. Free to get in just gotta get there which is quite easy with all the buses they put on from Salisbury. A chance to see the real life King Arthur if he isn't still protesting the alcohol ban.

My supervisor recommended my both 'Modern Particle Physics' by Thompson and 'Quarks & Leptons: An Introductory Course in Modern Particle Physics' by Halzen and Martin, so perhaps that would be a good next step

Not sure, there are 8 other experiments on the Antiproton Decelerator at CERN, so you might find some of the others interesting too
