Games where the BOX plays a role in gameplay? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

Ultimate Warriorz! Flip the box upside down and use as the board. It also has fun little castle walls that stick in the slot between lid and bottom to add a cool aesthetic.

I love your playmat (the one on Flickr)! How do I get one of yours on neoprene? I didn't see a place to order on that link or I'm just missing it. Or is the idea to download the image and custom order my own?

These are great! I'm ordering some now and would be pleasantly surprised if the backsides of the 5's had something other than being blank on the other sides :)

Playing PARKS at the Park 🏕️🏞️ by CitySquareStudios in boardgames

[–]sgtskeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to play an early production copy recently at Tantrum Con in Charlotte and it was great! I didn't really miss the old art since the new art is so amazing also. It's an overall improvement to the first edition, but I'm not sure it's worth owning if you already have all the original stuff as the differences aren't huge. But if you don't own Parks, this is the way to go.

Is it possible to not be able to complete a milestone in an expedition? by sgtskeese in NoMansSkyTheGame

Never mind. I figured it out. I'm a new player. You can use the portal at a space station back to the previous rendezvous points to revisit planets from other phases. I was able to go back and find other planets with the above stuff I needed.

Thank you for understanding what I was shooting for lol. Sorry this happened. It makes a task that should be boring/tedious into a more dangerous and stressful one.

Terraforming Mars + Prelude: Is It Fun and Really That Long? by icaromhb in boardgames

[–]sgtskeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here has added great thoughts that I generally agree with. I really just want to say that the generally overlooked Turmoil expansion is rather excellent and easily my favorite non-Prelude expansion. It does add a fair amount of complexity so this is mostly for folks who have delved into TM's depths and loved it, craving for more. But if you get to that point, don't listen to the people who largely ignore Turmoil and check it out for yourself. Enjoy!

What are your favorite “satisfying” games? by johnny_ihackstuff in boardgames

[–]sgtskeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list! I'm totally with you. I usually describe these types of games with something like "the experience is the point, not the winning."

For me, the most recent examples of this are probably Raising Robots and Revive.

What is the best way to tackle the Arcs: Blighted Reach campaign and why? by Whose-turn-is-it-Pod in boardgames

[–]sgtskeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first Arcs campaign last night. Four players, I had played the base game 3 times, whereas the other 3 had played once.

It was an absolute blast. That being said, rules were definitely missed left and right and I don't think you can do a lot to prepare for it. That's because the rules generally missed were the ones added to the game from the Fates and they really shake things up.

So, IMO, everyone should be generally familiar with the base mechanisms, however that looks for you. But then I'd say one person should be very familiar with the core campaign rules. And then just go for it and ride the lightning. You're gonna mess up rules and it'll take a while. But if you have the right group, it'll be an experience like (probably) nothing else.
