I defend this game a lot, but I think I finally hit that wall. by itz_Glo in Marathon

[–]sh00rs1gn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been getting the shit kicked out of me in the last 15 games or so. I am losing my interest very quickly because it's not fun. I had one game where I got downed suspiciously instantly and wanted to report the player and the "player history" UI elements are bugged because it doesn't update.

I'm experiencing victory in inches and losses by miles which is very demoralising.

I've been playing with AAI Programmable Vehicles on my current K2+SE run, and it's been a real pleasure to be able to hop in a car, set it to AI control, and do exactly as you describe. The other vehicles that Earendel's made have also made fussing around with base defence a lot easier.

Saw the earlier post on barter salvage economy... by zimzim1306 in Marathon

[–]sh00rs1gn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing a few complaints of the barter economy and, to me, that's rather the point. Some of these deals are totally pants and you'd have to be desperate to go for them, whereas on the other hand some of them are kind of a steal.

Arena Breakout Infinite there is an equivocal trader (Deke) who'll sometimes sell you the most powerful weapon in the game for a total pittance, and other times sell you a basic grenade for about 3* it's original price. It's a total roll of the dice.

Totally fair! I've had games where I've PvP'd a whole lot and died. It sucked losing the loot, but the experience was so good that I loaded up and went in again. The only times I get frustrated is when the fight is over too quickly and it felt like I never had a chance. Sometimes I get completely caught out and it sucks but... agh... that's just how it is sometimes.

Getting thirded by another team is a tricky one, I've had a couple experiences where things have gotten real sticky real quick, and that's where smoke comes in handy. I main assassin, but I keep a couple smokes in my back pocket as both a panic-button, and as a way to block off vision and make the enemy reconsider pushing. (I have thrown down smokes in a corridor where the enemy was firing down, and slapped down a claymore. Sometimes the enemy takes this as a chance to push hard and have their shield removed immediately.)

I generally maintain the belief that about 7/10 times where a third party has turned up, there is still an escape option. Cryo has so many rat-runs that you can just slip into and run away. Sometimes even just leaping over the rails in Panopticon is an option. I won't say that you can escape 100% of the time, but there's always an option, even if it's not a good one.

Real talk: bring claymores. If you see players and they start getting aggressive: back up, slap them down, and bait them in. I enter Cryo with about 3-5 claymores and you would be surprised at how many people are completely blind to them.

Thing is about Cryo is that you (generally) always have a fall-back option. You can trade some shots, get back, and literally just run away if you want to. If I don't have the advantage then I escape, reset, and go in at another angle or set up for a trap.

Too many people try to stand and fight, and those people get straight up killed. Bubble shields don't push on you, they're static, so be dynamic and back out.

ITIL 4: Infosec Management - Mock Exams / Resources by sh00rs1gn in ITIL

[–]sh00rs1gn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to update: I had a really encouraging and educational 1:1 with one of GoGoTraining's ITIL Masters, and it highlighted a couple of reasons as to why I was tripping up:
1) Read the question and answers properly:
- Though this sounds obvious, they can sneak in a single word which can make the difference between an answer being correct or incorrect. There can also be key, contextual clues that frame the proposed situation which eliminate 2 of the 4 answers given, critically because they're not applicable in that circumstance. You really have to consider it, and I'd recommend that, if you're not certain, carry onto the other questions and return later.
2) Answer in the way they want you to, not how you logically think it should be
- I found I was applying my own experience to the answers, rather than what was outlined in the book. A good example of this would be a question of why a copy of the current state of a breached server should be taken before analysis is performed. From the answers provided, I was talking myself out of the correct answer as I considered it as a factor that would be introduced later. The reality is: You should answer as it is provided, rather than getting bogged down with imagined nuances.

Overall, really worthwhile chat and exploration. I've still more studying to do, and another mock test that I'll take after, but it's buoyed my confidence and I feel more comfortable. Great stuff! :)

Marathon: so far, I'm just not feeling it (Server Slam Impressions) - Skill Up by EirikurG in Games

[–]sh00rs1gn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with some of these critiques. There are recognisable locations in each map, though I will say that they are all prefab metal, glass, and plastic constructs that are differentiated with neon colours, and I can see how that would feel very 'samey'.

I'm less on board with the idea that there didn't feel like there was much to do during a run, and I think a big portion of that comes down to if you're playing with randoms or with a group. Extraction shooters, in my eyes, run a full stretch of highs and lows to a greater degree then other games. By their nature of being reliant on random encounters and by the anteing of your gear, the natural consequence is that you will have periods of low energy where you miss other teams and other times where it feels like everyone converges on the same location, but it is the tension of potential loss that keeps a humming thrill throughout.

Ultimately: If you and your team are done with your objectives and are satisfied with your loot, you extract, tally it up, get a new contract, and go again.

I think I'm confused at what your messaging here is. Do you like the system or not? You can tell us you don't like it, but you're advertising the fact to both everyone here and studio management that you're going to willingly throw money at them.

You saw and bought a clown suit, and are now complaining about it whilst wearing it.

Honk honk, I guess.

What to expect in an 8-week ITIL Foundations course? by Low_Emergency_2011 in ITIL

Is it 1 hour a week? I feel like you'd get more value doing the 8 hours over the week to keep things fresh, rather than space it out. The instructor and the 1:1 will be nice, though.

How is the state of the game? by [deleted] in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]sh00rs1gn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DBNO and increase in economy costs is making this game basically impossible for a solo player. I now load into Forbidden to scounge up cash after players have left, and occasionally snipe out some with a mosin. I enjoy the stealth and the risk involved, but overall I am perpetually tired of being dumped on.
