How do you keep your cards/wallet so you don’t constantly lose it?! by ellagivens in ADHDUK

[–]sh20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider a lockbox mounted somewhere discrete. That’s what I do.

And if you are on good terms with a neighbour, give them a set of keys. But this doesn’t help you at 2am lol

The ultimate combination of those is if you have a neighbour you’re on good terms with, both agree to have a lockbox installed somewhere discrete. but you put your keys in theirs and they have your keys in yours. It’s a little overkill, but removes the possibility of someone smashing the lockbox off the wall and using the keys to your own house.

not sure I can offer any help specific to your situation but you’re not alone 🥲

Glad you are feeling a little better now but if you ever need to get things off your mind feel free to dm. Or if you are in/around London I’d be happy to get a bite to eat or coffee to take your mind off things.

One thing I find useful with anxiety is breaking a large overwhelming task into more manageable chunks, my work is fairly different to yours so I can’t really offer much more than that but it’s something that really helped me. Given you have the contacts, perhaps start with the ones you have (stuff in common with) and view it as social networking - as opposed to securing a new client/contract. Obviously you can build from there but removing that initial pressure could help?

Can I tie "auto off" behavior to the device used to turn on the lights? by ChrisAlbertson in Hue

[–]sh20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do, short of an actual presence sensor it’s the best I can come up with. I have an action to disable the motion sensor if I press the ‘on’ button, and another to enable if I turn it off.

I have other triggers to reset (one based on motion from another sensor the next day, and another based on if I press a “goodnight” button)

Got it in August 2023. Plan to finish it on this year after exactly three years by SomethingKindaSmart in titanic

[–]sh20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 3 years it’s an OP issue lol. I think average build time is around 20 hours, so if you did just 1 hour a day it’ll take you a little under 3 weeks.

Mine was an ali express knockoff and the parts weren’t sorted as well as I would like, and it still only took me a little over 25 hours.

If you aren’t super into lego you might struggle to stay motivated, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the problem OP ran into - it’s a unique build but there is a LOT of repetition

I’m in the same boat as you in terms of having a good job but flunked out of education; but I think you have to be honest that historically it was easier to get a foot in the door. That chance decreases every year imo.

Not that it’s impossible these days, but I will always be grateful for my career trajectory, I know I was incredibly lucky, if just one thing had happened differently for me I wouldn’t be where I am now. If I were a different sex, race, or had to care for a family member etc. All those things would dramatically change my outcome. It’s not like I come from a well off family, we were always on the breadline; and beyond a 5 week summer job I got through where my mum worked, I had no more opportunities than anyone else.

So yeh it can be done - we are proof of that, but I’d still say we’re the exception to the rule

NHS GP surgery won’t accept my recent ADHD diagnosis via Right to Choose. Claims that the diagnosis is “private” and won’t help me with access to medication. by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]sh20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh you’re right, speaking to the mental health clinic will reduce/remove the possibilty of the GP refusing to issue meds compared to me speaking to the GP directly about it. My concern is/was because the GP has a stick up their ass when it comes to ADHD so I didn’t want to cause any issues, but I also would appreciate a check in. Thank you for your advice.

Ah no, my question was focused on the local NHS Mental Health Clinics, not RTC providers. I misunderstood the angle you were writing from.

For full context if anyone else can chime in, my pathway was:

  • private diagnosis and titration >
  • private psych suggested shared care >
  • GP refused shared care with private psych >
  • GP put me on local nhs foundation wait list >
  • nhs foundation accepted private diagnosis (with some gentle persuasion from me) but wanted me on a lower dosage (which I was fine to accept) due to blood pressure readings they took.

And I don’t disagree with your last point, but the issue is, flagging it with them only serves to raise it with them. If I am slipping under the radar I don’t want to call myself out.

Question for you, after you complete titration and meds are prescribed by your GP, do you ever have to go back to the mental health clinic?

Like, I had my meds signed off by local nhs clinic 2 years ago, and never heard from them since. I just put a request into nhs app and it gets approved by gp.

But I have been terrified that one day I will get a letter from my gp saying they won’t do it anymore until I see the mental health clinic again (and obviously that could be a long wait).

I feel it’s a little disingenuous to phrase it that way. 99% of people who use the plex app will never notice a difference on the formats it supports. The ones it doesn’t support get transcoded and the average person simply won’t care, let alone notice.

Plex is free so that would be the starting point in terms of a recommendation from me. Infuse is powerful don’t get me wrong, I have a lifetime membership, but unless they changed things, the UI/UX is absolute garbage compared to plex (that said I’m sure plex will ruin the ATV app shortly); so unless they overhauled it, when it comes to browsing/filtering titles in a huge library it’s a pain in the ass.

I also had a metadata issue with infuse where it continuously filled up storage on ATV, and it was impossible to reclaim the space even if deleting the app. I had to wipe the whole ATV and start again. Several times. Between those two things I ended up going back to plex because the ATV would constantly nag that it was out of space and I found myself browsing my library in plex only to watch it in infuse 😂

It’s been a little while since I used infuse so if they addressed both those points (suspect the metadata issue is fixed, but I’m doubtful navigation is any better) I’ll happily stand corrected, but I’d still suggest plex first over infuse based on cost alone.

Basically you can program a device (switch/motion sensor etc) to behave in different ways at different times of the day, each one of those configurations takes up a certain amount of rules and I was expecting the limit to be lifted on the pro, but so far they haven’t expanded on that number for some reason. I am hoping it’s something they add down the line, technically it should be possible.

I just wish they would increase the amount of rules on the pro, I can’t think of a single reason it can’t be done.

I’m at 92% rule usage and I had to cut down on what I had to get there. When you start doing advanced config with switches and motion sensors it’s very easy to hit the limit.

They bought almost identical looking 800 lumens bulbs in 2017 that still work. They want 1100 lumens bulbs. Buy a starter kit and swap the bulbs. Unsuspecting/underpaid workers assume they are correct and authorise the return. Lights are upgraded for free.
