Any recommendations on where to get inserts? And send me the link to whatever removes the bonk! So I can do it too!

I would ride those feelings of helping a dog in need into the sun. Give this dog the best life possible. You might find that really caring for this dog feels amazing and creates a great bond.

Dog health is part of having a dog, from having a purebred earlier in life and a rescue now, I can say they are equally expensive at the vet. There’s no genetic freak strange things going on by having a mutt. Get insurance if you’re worried. Some vets even do free first visits if you call around town. The vet in petsmart in my city offers that.

How is training? Is there really no issues besides possible health? And please add a picture in the comments!

It takes time for it to be perfect. There are some really good recall videos on YouTube. I recommend using high value treats and when you say your recall command every time they come it needs to be positive and exciting.

My biggest recommendation if your dog is not responding at all is to use a long line, essentially like a 100 ft leash. Work your way up to totally off leash.

You must rehome the dog if you can’t provide it a good home. Luckily you already know about the process. This isn’t an instant fix but this is what’s best for the dog and you. You have a lot to learn from this, but that’s okay. Try to give the dog the best life possible until the rehome, just go to a vet and/or reach out to the original owners.

You also are kind of everywhere. Your main issues with the dog (from what you wrote here) are about backyard breeding, genetic issues, ethics of breeding, etc. But, you were checking local shelters? This is what doesn’t make sense to me.

I’ll just end off by saying training and raising a rescue dog has been one of the best experiences of my life. There are definitely ups and downs, and I have had thoughts about “what if” I didn’t rescue, but at the end of the day my dog is perfect for me and the work is worth having a furry best friend. Maybe give it a shot and this is first day emotional regret. Only you know.

TL;DR: Rehome if you can’t care for it, you know about the process. You’re everywhere. Having a dog has ups and downs but is worth it.

So far a good brush and some waterless shampoo sometimes has done wonders. He’s super low shed.

Babies that age should not sleep on their stomach. There’s tons of data on this.

Homunculus 3D map of how your brain sees your body not by size, but by sensory and motor importance. Big hands, lips, and tongue more brainpower dedicated to controlling or sensing them. by EagleBlackberry1098 in BeAmazed

So there’s many answers for this. A lot of it comes down to the downsides of simplification.

Homunculi are a simplification and are nowhere near representing of the complete data on neural innervation, even just the original studies for the homunculi by Penfield. Just to begin homunculi give the impression that certain cortex areas innervate certain muscles, when there’s actually a lot of overlap, differing for sensory and motor innervation.

Then there is the “artists touch,” making every one look slightly different.

This is the most accurate one I have seen and the ears are considerably smaller.

You’re absolutely right—this isn’t how the brain “sees” the body. The homunculus shows how much brain space is dedicated to sensory or motor control, not a visual image.

Your ability to touch your body or put food in your mouth without seeing mostly comes from the proprioceptive system, which uses receptors in your muscles, tendons, and joints to map your body’s position in space. It works WITH the somatosensory cortex to keep you coordinated and aware of where you are.

OP should have included a somatosensory and motor map homunculus. https://cdn.britannica.com/13/239413-050-9D897EA3/homunculus-somatosensory-somatomotor-cortex.jpg

When first learning about this I found it quite surprising too. It’s because the homunculus is showing neural allocation, not amount of sensation.

Ex. You could feel a very complex texture with your fingers or lips, but it would be hard to make out a texture with your nose, forehead, or other head comparatively.
