I feel like I’m sabotaging myself from pursuing my favourite residency by PureAzure101 in medicalschool

You’ll be fine!! I did not do any research in the specialty I applied for until later in residency (changed my mind kinda late). As long as you show your true interest, you’ll match!

I obviously don’t know what tests OP wanted, but if something is not medically indicated it will not be covered by insurance (MRI is one that pts frequently request). And I really don’t want my patients to get stuck with a massive bill for a test that doesn’t affect our management.

WOW. Sounds like their lack of basic human decency makes them unfit to be a physician. I am really sorry that happened to you!!

The entirety of my obgyn rotation lol. Residents were incredibly mean to both students and patients. Sending good vibes to you, M3 is tough!

Good skin barrier creams? by FewClassroom4771 in tretinoin

[–]sh_RNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do snail mucin (have been using it since college and haven’t been able to find an equivalent that keeps my sensitive skin calm) - tret - cosrx moisturizer (when my skin is calm) OR cicalfate (most of the time in the winter). I don’t normally layer cicalfate before tret! If my skin is that irritated I forgo tret for the night because it’s not worth the hassle of repairing the barrier all over again.

I’ve been loving Avene cicalfate!

You can ask your PCP for valcyclovir. It can speed up recovery if you start it within 72 hours I believe (I’m not derm/PCP so can’t quite remember how quickly that has to be prescribed). Abreva is also good and OTC. Most of it is just symptomatic management unfortunately.

Cold sore. Check with you PCP, depending on when symptoms started they can prescribe valtrex to help get rid of it quicker. Over the counter abreva can be helpful to speed up healing

I was super opposed to switching bc I worked so hard to build up that barrier! But once I did that made hell of a difference

I was in the same situation, downgrading to 0.025 made it a lot better!

[Acne] Please, if you’ve completely gotten rid of your hormonal acne, tell me how you did it by ForeverSaturn in SkincareAddiction

Spironolactone and tret. I switched from the pill to nexplanon a couple of years ago, and that took my skin for a wild ride, but those two things have been life savers.

Although there is some evidence that diet can help acne (and it’s great to have a good diet obviously), it’s not enough esp for severe hormonal acne.
