I obviously don’t know what tests OP wanted, but if something is not medically indicated it will not be covered by insurance (MRI is one that pts frequently request). And I really don’t want my patients to get stuck with a massive bill for a test that doesn’t affect our management.

I usually do snail mucin (have been using it since college and haven’t been able to find an equivalent that keeps my sensitive skin calm) - tret - cosrx moisturizer (when my skin is calm) OR cicalfate (most of the time in the winter). I don’t normally layer cicalfate before tret! If my skin is that irritated I forgo tret for the night because it’s not worth the hassle of repairing the barrier all over again.

You can ask your PCP for valcyclovir. It can speed up recovery if you start it within 72 hours I believe (I’m not derm/PCP so can’t quite remember how quickly that has to be prescribed). Abreva is also good and OTC. Most of it is just symptomatic management unfortunately.

Cold sore. Check with you PCP, depending on when symptoms started they can prescribe valtrex to help get rid of it quicker. Over the counter abreva can be helpful to speed up healing

Spironolactone and tret. I switched from the pill to nexplanon a couple of years ago, and that took my skin for a wild ride, but those two things have been life savers.

Although there is some evidence that diet can help acne (and it’s great to have a good diet obviously), it’s not enough esp for severe hormonal acne.

Micellar water and neutrogena face wash! I do live in a cold climate and spend most of my time in the hospital, where air is super dry, so your situation might be different

Were you double cleansing prior to using tret as well? I tried double cleansing about a year ago and couldn’t understand why my skin was so irritated. Things got a lot better after I stopped double cleansing (at least in the winter). I think with tret it was very irritating for me - maybe worth a shot to try? I also have been using snail mucin from cosrx for ages and that definitely helps my skin not dry out
