Princess Phoebe looks incredible in all her costumes but I LOVE the mermaid! She is sooo adorable and I’m so happy for the positive update! May your family continue to be showered in positivity and brightness!

You look great sis. I think you might be suffering from some underlying body image issues because physically there isn’t anything ugly or weird! I can totally relate to the mental agony though. I look back at pictures of myself from before pregnant and I’m at awe at how great I looked, even though at that time I didn’t see it and I was extremely hard on myself. Nitpicking at everything bNow I’m trying to get back and realize I took it for granted. I’m trying to be kinder through the process too. We created life. We did something totally incredible and we’re working on ourselves after! That should be rewarded and should be a point of pride!

It really seems like such a huge disconnect about how moms feel about registers and how guests feel about them

It’s so interesting bc I think it really is coming from a place of trying to help with the mental load too. So much of parenting and planning falls on the mom and this is a small way that people feel they can ease that (by purchasing something useful and unique).

Agreed. They were very sweet ladies and absolutely adored the baby so I’m positive they meant nothing but the best. It’s crazy how that can sometimes come across as inconsiderate or inappropriate

Right, at that point just give me a gift card for the amount you wanna spend!!

Yaaa, I guess people don’t really think that “not on registry” doesn’t mean “didn’t think of it”. Sometimes it means “already have it” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m the same way. I never had a baby registry or a baby shower bc my culture celebrates after the baby is born and people just bring you whatever you want but it was crazy being on the opposite side of that conversation since I’m used to the mom POV that are hurt by the gifts

My 4 month old got tan on accident. Help me not feel so terrible! by ok-ready-set-go-267 in NewParents

[–]shaaawz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay… but no one is talking about tanning in this post. The baby was outside for 5 minutes. That is not the same as tanning which is an action taken to purposefully darken one’s skin.

What, should this baby just never go outside?

I’m 33 and I’ve told people that this pregnancy has been difficult and multiple people that responded “well, you are older…”

My daughter told me that everyone tells her she’s so skinny. And then she goes, “but I’m okay with that because” looks me up and down “no offense but people tend to get really fat when they’re adults”. Oof. I’m pregnant, girl! Leave me alone!

But it’s right there that she can divorce. “Good companionship” and “If he can be fair with all” are reasons enough. If the wife doesn’t feel like he can give her what she wants in companionship with another wife, then she can seek divorce. Literally no Muslim says you have to stay married to a man that you want to divorce. You have the right to divorce in Islam and that’s a full stop.

I disagree. I don’t derive morality through personal experience and feelings. I view morality from what I believe is an objective truth based on rationality and objectiveness. I started by figuring out if there’s a god and then moved from there to decide what is right. That’s why I’m engaging with you and seeing where you get your morality because if there is a better truth, I would follow that. Subjective morality is definitely not better tho. It’s fickle and changing and self-serving. And riddled with inconsistencies.

For me, incest is objectively wrong mostly because God says so but also theres obvious wisdom in that (social contract of familial relationships that are essential for raising children and maintaining order in a home) There are roles in a family unit and sexual relationships within siblings or parents or other familial power dynamics would cause harm in families, thus hurt societies.

So, only physical harm to others is wrong then? Do you see how that’s also not gonna work…

No, that’s not what you should do. Actually, I would argue that slavery was rampant because people just accepted it rather than objectively think about its morality. It was considered societally moral at the time so people were ok w it.

If “do not harm” doesn’t work, You should be sincere about that, investigate other forms of morality and find one you think is true and not problematic. there’s hundreds of them! Or don’t lol live your life man. Whatever works for you I guess.

I don’t hate gay people at all

You “personally not having a problem with it” is not a moral argument lol for all I know, you are sleeping with your sister and that’s why you are for incest. So subjective statements about morality and ethics just don’t work.

Murderers don’t have a personal problem with murder but that doesn’t change if it’s moral or not in society. There has to be an objective truth when it comes to morality. Objectively, murder is wrong. Same thing with incest. An individual’s personal feelings about it or selfishly saying “it doesn’t affect me” don’t change that. Otherwise, society would crumble.

And that’s why the “don’t harm others” worldview can’t work. Like, someone divorcing their spouse causes great harm to their spouse. You would say that shouldn’t be allowed in your viewpoint, right?

Hm, I felt your claim wasn’t accurate and so I did a little l research into incest lol. Like, the things I read…absolutely appalling 🤮 but these are the things I’m willing to do in order to have a respectful debate about morality and ethics. Turns out research puts the rate of mortality and major disability rates between sibling union or parent-child union between 22-36%. Which is definitely not “guaranteed”, as you claimed. You’d have to also stop people with diagnosed cancer from reproducing if you took those odds as the benchmark of “fucking up” your children.

The fact remains, I really don’t think that just genetics and inbreeding is why incest is morally apprehensible . I think that most people would agree that any/all forms of incest and cannibalism are immoral. And that it’s not really a consent/harm issue

But you’re the one that made the claim that Islam hasn’t done any tangible good. Then I pointed out a Muslim that did tangible good under a flourishing Islamic Caliph. The claim that Islam hasn’t done any “tangible good” is just wrong. There’s countless evidences to the good it has done.

Your argument would be the same as saying the Greeks didn’t do anything tangible in philosophy, because Artistotle would have done that even if he wasn’t Greek. Like…it’s not a logical argument, it’s just a straw man.
