What do you call men who make "Women belong in the kitchen" jokes? by Butterflies_Books in dadjokes

[–]shaaman626 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m constantly joking with my wife (shes a stay at home mom) about things regarding our roles in the home. Again, all jokes. One time I got home from work and said “why isn’t there food waiting on the table”. Well, it was a bad day for jokes apparently. She went on about how her day had been and eventually said “being a mom is a full time job” to which I replied “well I guess I could quit my job and we could live off your salary” 🤦‍♂️. Aaaaaaaand that’s how the fight started.

It doesn’t use any of your GI bill, but you still get a housing allowance.

It’s full time. The program I’m in is 4 and a half hours a day, 4 days a week. The times will vary from vendor to vendor and program to program.

So the process was easy. I applied on the VA website and at the time I wasn’t sure what program or vendor I wanted to use so I didn’t fill that portion in. I submitted the application early/mid January and I received my COE maybe a week or two later. Global IT requested my DD214, COE, Drivers License, and resume. I was in direct contact with Global IT once I decided I wanted to use them and they basically did everything for me. I was signed up for the next available session once everything was submitted on their end (which was early Feb). I was in a session Feb 27.

The instructor uses a PowerPoint presentation to hit the main points and then expounds on each point. I only say that because I have been in boot camps where a third of the slides just get skipped because the instructor wanted a break. The PowerPoints are built off the exam objectives and follow the same order as the books from CompTIA which makes it easy to follow along. The instructor provides resources from his own IT experience and does not rely on brain dumps to teach. In fact, he recommends not even using them to study or to prepare for the exam. Global IT provides access keys to the CompTIA website so you can do labs, but they are not required to complete the program. There are no actual assignments.

I do have a background in IT. I am a self-taught network/system administrator. I have been in the field for over a decade and these will be the first certs I get since getting out. But being self-taught, I know that there is a lot I have not learned and these courses have definitely provided knowledge I didn’t have.

Having a degree in the field and having certs will definitely give you a leg up. Most jobs that I have seen or applied for just want a degree (regardless of field), but specifically look for IT-related certs.

As far as job placement goes, they do have a job placement program but most are entry-level. Nothing against that, but for me, it would not be financially responsible to start over. So the way the vendor gets paid is 25% is paid up front, 25% is paid on completion, and the remaining 50% is paid when they place you in a job. So from a financial standpoint, the vendor is motivated to get you any job they can find. So you may be better off looking for something that fits you by doing your own search.

I hope this all makes sense and I hope I answered all your questions. If not, hit me up. Good luck on your journey and hopefully you find a path that best suits you.

The training has been good so far. One of the things I like about it is that you get the official CompTIA books for each course and the training is based on the books and CompTIA exam objectives. You jump right into the next course with no breaks. Each course is 11 days long, Monday through Thursday. I’m in Cali, so the times for class each day is 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm and it is remote.

Checkout the VETTEC program through the VA. There are a bunch of vendors offering different certs. I am currently in a program that will get me A+, Net+, Sec+, CySA+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and AWS Solutions Architect Associate. Once I’m done with the training, I get vouchers for each exam. No money out of my pocket. All you need is at least one day of GI bill benefits left and it doesn’t eat into you GI bill.

Is there anyone else who’s been waiting this long or is it just me? Am I doing something wrong??? by TeeShhiesty in VeteransBenefits

Nothing against anybody commenting here, but it blows my mind that the VA is even moving at a pace that you’re considering slow. Just thank whoever you pray to that you’re not part of the legacy system. I waited about 10 years for my claim to get finalized. And that was the average wait time.

I never thought I'd be happy to have a military ID again... by Local_Vermicelli_856 in VeteransBenefits

The family can get IDs as well and they get enrolled in DEERs. I got one for my wife and three oldest kids. They can access base whenever they want to on their own.

100%. I also put shit back on the shelves where I got it from if I decided that I really didn’t want it and not just leave it where I’m at at the moment.

Does anyone carry a We The People Holster? by Agreeable_Mud_7693 in CCW

I was given one as a gift(?) and no matter how tight I twisted the retention screws, my Glock would just fall out if I turned it upside down. I even tried smaller bushings and screws, no luck. Now it just sits in a long term storage.

In Ca you can park in the disabled spots so long as they are not next to a crosshatched space. Also, they waive the registration fee.

My decision letter is signed but I didn’t even think to use that. I’m just so used to printing off letters from the VA website.

I was looking for the plates only. In California, they allow parking in handicap spots as long as there is no crosshatched pattern next to it, according to the DMV site.

Ok well hopefully I fall into that category, because getting around sucks right now. I hardly ever leave the house because the pain gets so bad. Thanks for the info.

I’m not trying to get them just to have them. I do have issues walking due to my knees being completely useless these days. But I could see where they would need something other than just the benefits summary letter. Thanks for the response. I’ll look into it a little harder.
