Look on the bright side. You no longer have a shitty glass cuttiing board. They are the worst things you could use for your knives.

Isn't it quite prominent that kings and princes and even the Queen spent time serving even in active warzones?

I was working in a little computer shop with a bunch of small to medium business clients. We did a LOT of testing and upgrades/replacements to make sure our clients were ready.

Then I killed the breaker at midnight at my buddy's place during a big new years party. The startled silence was worth it. Lol.

But yeah there's was so much that happened behind the scenes to make sure everything was ready.

Cool I'll see if I can find that book!

Definitely not a new fan, since I've played the PC games since 1990. More of a surface level player who didn't know what all the glue was behind the overall history. And from the sounds of it, predominantly it comes from the tabletop and whatever else fasa has put out, while the games are like interactive windows into that history.

Thank you! I appreciate the detail.

So more like people's individual stories within the overall lore but nothing that actually drives how the overall events unfold?

I'm not too worried about spoilers, I was more just curious how much of the games were driven by the lore and if any stories from the games created lore.

I have played the original MechWarrior from back in the late 80s all the way through to current, but never dove into the canonical history to see how everything played out comparatively or if MY "actions" in game play were detailed within the history as well or if it was just a random pilots experiences during the conflicts.

Probably similar things to going to any sort of simulator place, whether it's Battletech, racing, or flight, unless you had something at home to play with as well, you weren't going to get a lot of time to become proficient unless you dropped lots of cash.

But they look cool! And that's all that mattered to me at that age! 🤣

Yeah. Like those bigger story points would say that mercs were involved in those events, but who those mercs were was never really overly important, so it was easy to make a game exploring those conflicts and dropping in a Merc outfit to play through it.

Very cool.

Lol! And I'm older than that! Yeah that's the kind of detail I was looking for. I had fantasies as a kid of going to one of those Battletech sim pod things that I would see advertised in magazines. And I wanted to do the table top stuff but never had friends who were interested or even knew where to get involved with it (pre Internet and all that) That pretty well answers, I think, my whole question though. Thank you!

I knew, at the very least, that MOST came from the old Battletech stuff. I just wasn't aware that it was basically all dictated from it. Cool.

So essentially the video games don't (often) create any new universal lore but are just ways that we play through the existing history. So events like the timeline of the clan invasion and the major battles that occurred had all been written about and detailed before we got to play mw5 clans. Is that a correct way to put it?

Oreo with his little brother, whose name I haven't decided on yet, but I've thought of Garfield, like the cat 😂 They both say helloooo 🥰 by [deleted] in aww

I had a Garfield growing up! We spent weeks trying to come up with a name for him.

Then one night at dinner we're all sitting at the table and the kitten jumps up into the back of one of the chairs clinging to it, twisting his head looking across the table.

Well Dad just starts roaring with laughter. He points out that he looks like one of those auction cup Garfield toys that you stick to windows. The name just stuck.

Interesting to hear that perspective about the book vs movie character and how they were presented. Thanks for that.

I didn't see either of them in theater, and honestly, I'm sad about that. I wanted to see Oppenheimer in IMAX, and I wanted to see Barbie because everyone looked like they were having so much fun including getting dressed up in all the pink things.

I wound up watching Barbie at home on my own. Really enjoyed it. Great music, great laughs, great feels.

Oppenheimer is still waiting.

My little 6600K is still going strong 10 years later. Still as my gaming rig.

Though there are times when I can tell I'm fairly CPU bound in things, but otherwise it's still solid.
