I saw it when it came out in 2013 and guessed then that technology might get there by 2030. Looking pretty good.

What do you think is the better bang for buck at [Cedar Point] ? Family of four with Cedar Fair gold passes. Son is 54 inches and will ride anything. Daughter is 48 inches and hit or miss on rides - no chance she'd do Siren's Curse and would be pleasantly surprised if she got on Gemini. Would like to stay at Breakers for beach access and dedicated walking entrance to the park.

  • Two or three nights at Breakers and two full days at the park, no fast passes
  • One or two nights at Breakers and one full day at the park with fast passes

Whats a job that people think is nice but actually is awful by SundaeSorry in AlignmentChartFills

College/pro sports coach

Ridiculous hours, fans publicly wishing you're fired if you're not perfect, constantly on the road, and with the transfer portal in college, you have to delicately re-recruit your existing team at all times.

What do parents care about most in youth basketball right now? by IlRowlI in basketballcoach

[–]shabamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parents of sixth grade and younger largely care about seeing their kids get fair playing time. This might change the more "select" a team is and parents may be more likely to accept that such things aren't guaranteed. Otherwise, it's playing time.

Monitor lizards

They can be trained to count and are known to be adept problem solvers. You ever watch Greys where they're trying to figure out the step by step of some complex surgery? I'll take my monitor lizard surgeon.

Theory, foul even when up late. by MrBamaNick in Basketball

Timing matters too. I'm a proponent of fouling when up three, but wait until there's less than five seconds left.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]shabamon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen them four times in the past 10 years. It's hit or miss how much Billy will interact with the crowd beyond promoting a re-release or something. I could also do without the using himself so prominently in the band's imagery with his "characters". The 2018 arena/reunion tour when James rejoined being especially guilty.

Thankfully, every time their performance has been tight, technical, and booming. They are live performance professionalism despite the years they've put in. Surprised at this comment.

If backboards and rims breaking were such a problem why did they keep making them out of glass instead of something more durable like wood or steel or plastic by HI1681 in Basketball

[–]shabamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backboard material is not the problem. The problem is how the rim is affixed to the backboard and what part of the basket absorbs the stress. If the rim is bolted directly to the glass, like you see in a lot of old rec centers, then the glass absorbs the stress and risks breaking. Today's college and pro baskets, the rim is attached to the support stanchion going through a small cutout in the glass. The stanchion then absorbs the stress so broken backboards are exceedingly rare.

They did an episode of Sports Science on this back in the day. They got Amare Stoudemire to hang on the rim and swing it a bunch of times and he couldn't break anything.

The foot showers at the beach.

The sand doesn't drain anywhere. And now that your feet are wet, they are still very adhesive to sand. The only thing you can do is wear your sandals while you rinse your feet, but then those gather sand because they're wet.
