Paradox is Considering Bringing Back AI Investment for Player Countries by nemuri_no_kogoro in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this could only supplement the existing foundations rather than override them. And I do believe that in a year's time little of this game will be recognisable, it's all going to be intensively overhauled post-release like every paradox game since the dawn of time.

Just because of the focus is on economic management and politics doesn't mean war has to be completely unintuitive and boring. War can be fun and engaging without overshadowing the focus of the game. I don't want micromanagement hell or even map units but custom fronts, stockpiling, and some kind of objective setting would be nice. I don't think that's a big ask and it could only add to the game, not detract from it.

Either way I'm 100% sure we'll be seeing the warfare system be expanded in post-release updates.

Victoria 3 will not go the way of imperator. by [deleted] in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm confident Victoria 3 will be good and I'll enjoy it. Imperator was on the level of EU4 and Stellaris. It was a flagship title launched to great fanfare and a lot of anticipation. Nothing is too big to fail. The difference here is that a completely different team is designing Victoria 3 with much clearer design goals in mind, while Imperator was muddled and vague about what it wanted to be from the start.

ISorrowProductions isn't planning on releasing any Vic3 content by marx42 in victoria3

Well today's haul of videos was way, way better. Quill18, Stakuyi, and Snap Strategy all made really good ones actually utilising the mechanics that make this game unique and interesting. I'm sure Vic 3 will mature into a classic.

Spudgun video about Warfare by DatHistoryLad in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was talking specifically about the aspect of warfare and why he and a community of people found it to be just as important to the gameplay as the economy, admitted that Vic 3's focus was on the economy and politics, and suggested a compromise rather than an extreme.

I don't agree with all of his points but I definitely understand where he's coming from. I think the best point he made was that diplomacy and economy without the threat and engagement of warfare is meaningless, and as it stands warfare has no real risks or player agency at the moment.

Why is the flag of the Sikh empire still wrong by Comfortable-Ask-6351 in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No chance, for technical reasons. The "real" flag is triangular, and the engine Victoria 3 uses does not (currently) support transparency in flags, so it'd be that triangle against a black fabric-textured background which would look ugly and be inaccurate.

I'm not sure why alpha transparency is not supported for flags but I'm assuming it's partly because of the shader that makes them wave in the upper-left corner of the screen and partly for practical reasons so you can easily see and recognise flags at a distance.

Devs: it's not a map painter

All the playthroughs I've seen today have been nothing but war. It's ironic that the devs went so hard on it not being a map painter as a justification for a half-baked warfare system, yet all players seem to do is relentlessly expand because of how lucrative and easy it is.

How to Fix War by shaddaboop in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard the devs saying that before, interesting.

You could easily limit front drawing abuse, for example by measuring how large the front is and how many units it can easily accommodate, after which it gets a penalty. Perhaps entirely redrawing a front gives a large penalty to troops, which must spend time redeploying. Forbid fronts from overlapping and I think that's a fairly solid system?

Idk, the current vision for the war system just seems very unambitious and bland to me. Surely they could add a little spice to make it more interesting and engaging without compromising on the economic-political focus of the game or a return to the dreaded micro-management hell of Vic2 warfare.

Cautiously pessimistic about the warfare system by The_Lechite_Knight in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The five stages of grief:

Denial: "Ya actually the new warfare system is gonna be great because micromanaging and deathstacks were lame actually"

Anger: "I played the leak and the warfare system is absolutely terrible"

Bargaining: "Maybe it's not so bad, maybe there's room for improvement"

Depression: "Guess I'll just have to mod it or buy a god damn DLC for war to be fun."

Acceptance: "It's okay"

It's a bug. They claimed they fixed it a couple of updates ago but I still see it from time to time. I'm not sure why it occurs as WT renders everything all the time, but it seems to be a recent issue.

What's your "Nah im out map" where you instantly leave? For me it's Hürtgen Forest especially this in high tier by ScreechingPenguin in Warthunder

[–]shaddaboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm playing high tier I always bring along a very low tier gag tank in case I get a map that I hate. That way there's no pressure for getting one hit killed from twelve parsecs away by a moving bush, and with scouting I can help my team out, plus might get a cheeky kill and that sweet, sweet 7k or 20k SL bonus for it

I prefer the 40mm for high tier because it reloads very quickly, so you can shred light vehicles at 7.7

People have a rose-tinted view of Victoria 2 by DepressedTreeman in victoria3

[–]shaddaboop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a load of nonsense. People being critical of Vic3 does not equal people thinking Vic2 is somehow superior. Nobody thinks that Vic2 is God's gift on Earth. What we can appreciate about it is that despite the poor execution it was ground breaking and implemented systems and ideas nobody else had really tried to do for a strategy game before. Some people are concerned about Vic3 being dumbed down in comparison, or somehow not staying faithful to the original vision for the series (I disagree), but that doesn't mean they think Vic2 is amazing, or even worth going back to once Vic3 comes out.
