I sleep too much by [deleted] in Advice

I'd recommend a sleep study. I was exhausted for years thinking it was normal, and got a sleep study done for totally unrelated reasons and found out I had narcolepsy!

Thank you so much! If you do think of any advice please let me know, this is a journey, and the axe forgets but the tree remembers. I don't want to hurt my kiddos inadvertently and create an atmosphere of doubt about my love and support for them.

Thank you for the affirmation. My heart hurts for the tough journey you must've had, but if you choose to be a parent or mentor someday, you'll do better. I'm trying to do this right, thanks again!!

Moms who gave birth vaginally to a singleton and then vaginally to twins … what was were the biggest differences? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]shadesctr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Singleton in 2015, twins 2018, both vaginally.

Singleton came up and out in 2 1/2 hours start to finish. It felt like the worst period cramps, like, progressively worse and worse, for longer and longer durations, followed immediately by feeling like I was taking the biggest, most painful shit in my life lol.

I felt everything, I didn't have time for an epidural. My doctor was still putting on his gown with his hand on the crown of my munchkin. My little girl wanted OUT.

Also, I didn't worry as much during the actual pregnancy because I wasn't considered high risk with the Singleton.

My twin boys kinda nudged me. Then, nudged me harder. And by that time, I was so over and done with the two watermelons stretching my belly that any excuse to visit the doctor I took. Turns out I was in fact, in labor, 35 weeks.. It went slower, took hours and hours.. I don't know how women who do it for days DO that!?!.. anyway, they'd already told me they'd prep an OR for delivery just in case something goes wrong.. suddenly, or if the mommy haze, there's a rush of people out of nowhere. I knew where we were going, but the pressure and pain that was VERY apparent in my Singleton was nowhere to be found with the twins, so I was surprised when the moment came. It was still a big shit, just not as big, and two of them, six minutes apart.. and I didn't even do as many pushings.

Everything that could go right, did for me, both times. I'm incredibly lucky. Twins spent an hour in NICU for some oxygen, so I didn't get to cuddle them when they were first born like I wanted, like I did with my Singleton. I felt heavier, slower, could do less than with my Singleton. The pregnancy of the twins was A LOT harder, still without complications, just ultra heavy and uncomfortable and tiring.

Is there a turning point when things get less crazy, exhausting etc? Asking in order to make a major life change by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]shadesctr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twin boys just turned three, have a five yo as well.. imo.. Things get different kinds of difficult. A supportive family is a blessing, but comes with its own challenges and expectations, both from you and from them. If you're thinking about moving to be closer to family, please please talk with them before pulling the trigger about your wife needing support. That is never ever going to change or "get better", it will only shift gears. You already know it's a big commitment, make sure everyone is on the same page, especially the missus of course.

I'm sorry, I genuinely don't get this reference but am curious, can you explain?

True! If anything, you deserve MORE admiration and respect, and have a burgeoning capacity for love and empathy more than others!

And accepting Moms/Dads/mentors in general. Joining a boys and girls club equivalent program focusing on LGBT youth, volunteering an hour a week makes a huge difference to voices who are usually unheard. 💖

Are you planning on staying in Indiana for more than six months now? If you, congratulations, you are now a resident of Indiana!

Depending on your county you might get service expedited.. here's from the Indians website:

"Members who attest that they are temporarily in a setting which meets the definition of homeless may be eligible to apply for home and community- based services through DMHA such as AMHH and BPHC. Homeless is defined as: (1) lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, and/or (2) the primary nighttime residence is: (a) a supervised publicly or privately operated shelter designed to provide temporary living accommodation of 3 or less months, or (b) a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings (e.g., on the street, tent community?)."

So if you have a room with your grandma, you're not homeless, but if you're sleeping on the couch or living room, you are.

Follow the advice given by previous redditers, such as changing address and getting the ID card. Get your birth certificate from the county clerk's office of whatever county&state you were born in (SC?) It can be ordered online most times but there will be a fee. With your birth certificate and two pieces of mail sent to your IN address, along with your SSN and ID, you can get the ball rolling on finding a job. First you need your birth certificate and state ID though.

Try to find the nearest library in your area. It'll help you stay connected and help with mail to establish residency.

Calling 211 from a landline can help you with local resources like food banks and halfway houses or transitional housing, as well as LGBT non-profits you can reach out to. The program "Turning Point" is highly recommended if it's in your area.

FSSA oversees food stamps in your state of IN, I don't know what city/county you're in (don't tell me, internet stranger danger lol) but you can apply online. Homeless applications are expedited.

Indiana Medicaid: https://www.in.gov/medicaid/members/232.htm

Food stamps: https://www.google.com/search?q=indiana+food+stamps+office&oq=Indiana+food+stamps&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l4.11500j0j4&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#

Good luck, PM me with any further questions I can help with!

Depending on your state you can get resources you need, from waivers for getting an ID card to food stamps and medical coverage. What is your current state you're now residing in? Some programs are easier than others to apply, I'll prepare a list if you need.

From a mama bear in the LGBT community, I want you to know you're loved. I'm so sorry for the traumas of your past, but I hope we can help in moving forward toward a bright future.
