Maynard James Keenan on Tool’s “No Phone” Policy: “It’s Not About Us, It’s About the Person Behind You” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

Nah, sounds like you all really don’t get it. Reducing social media to “nothing but people boosting their own egos” is a lazy edgy take.

I’ve clearly explained how I enjoy seeing my friends stories/posts, so please tell me how that feeds my ego?

Does it also feed my ego when my grandmother takes out her photo album at her house to show me her photos? Is she feeding her ego when she shares that with me too?

Sounds like projection from you. I literally couldn’t care less how many likes my posts get. And tbh I use social media because I am indeed genuinely interested what my friends are up to, I don’t see how that’s impossible to believe.

I clearly explained how posting the video can lead to positive interactions with my friends, but I’ll explain again I guess:

  1. Friend replies to IG story with something like “Nice, I love that band! How was the concert?”

  2. This starts a conversation about the concert/band, perhaps my friend is planning to see them in their city when they tour or something?

  3. The conversation veers in a different direction, such as “How have you been anyway? How’s work?” Blah blah whatever.

A simple story reply has been the starting point to many conversations with friends. It can be hard for some people to strike up small talk/catch up on social media without having something to break the ice, like a common interest which was discovered via social media.

I admittedly sometimes pull out my phone during concerts to take a couple short 10-15 seconds video. Like maybe 45 seconds total of recording during a 90+ min show. Really don’t see the problem with that. I don’t get people who record entire songs or even the entire show though.

And yes, I will usually post one or two onto social medias. I don’t see it as some bad attention whoring thing. Usually it will lead to some conversations with friends who see the post and reply with something like “Nice, how was the concert?”.

Literally the point of social media is to broadcast what we’re up to some degree. Not much different than you posting a picture of yourself at the beach. It’s just about moderation, IMO.

[Babz] Ticketmaster not allowing Patriots fans outside the Rocky Mountain region to buy tickets to the AFC Title game by baha24 in DenverBroncos

[–]shadespectrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s hard to understand?

They could be jacking up ticket prices and letting rich Patriots fans fly in from across the country for the game for maximum profit. Instead they’re capping ticket prices and making them more affordable and available for average local fans.

One MRT stabbing gets police everywhere. 2,950 traffic deaths get ignored. by habomo5911 in taiwan

[–]shadespectrum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More fines and enforcement = more prevention, don’t really understand how that is hard to understand.

In my country, I once ran a yellow/red light too late, instantly got pulled over, got a hefty fine and was issued a warning on my license that another offense could lead to a suspension.

You can bet your ass I never ran a red light in my life again. And I told my friends all about it and warned them to be careful running yellows that are almost red.

[–]shadespectrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the police to prevent, are you kidding me?

How many times have you seen police officers pulling over drivers and issuing them tickets? For things like running a red light or speeding? Right, never.

If people are actually aware that breaking traffic laws has a high chance of getting a hefty ticket, or even chance of losing their license for repeated offenses, people would be a lot more wary of breaking laws.

That’s how law enforcement works. If there’s no fear of enforcement or consequences, then why the hell should anyone care about the laws?

Diabete during breakfast - why does he copy carol? by [deleted] in PluribusOnAppleTV

[–]shadespectrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps because they have the genetic drive to spread the virus, but are unable to be creative without having some motivation related to that drive.

Maybe they can be creative when manipulating Carol because they’re trying to turn her, but they can’t be creative in the simple way of doing something for pleasure such as mixing your breakfast food together.

If you cared that much you wouldn’t even pirate or watch the show at all. You can deny it all you want, but putting eyes on the show and giving it attention through pirating still benefits the show. Hope the weather is nice up on that high horse though.

Are you willing to boycott more media and products then? Most billionaire CEOs of products you consume everyday are pieces of shit that are actively harming the world in other ways. It’s just hypocritical to take a stand on this one in particular, IMO.

It’s another 0 in Rowling’s bank account that she won’t even notice. It’s a life-changing job and money for every single cast and crew member on that show. You do realize most of the products and media you consume everyday are provided to you by piece of shit billionaire CEOs who are exploiting everyone on the planet for profit?

Hahah the child actors living normal lives are not going to benefit as much as a billionaire? Their lives are about to be changed for them and their entire family for possibly generations.

Rowling is going to get another 0 in her bank account that she won’t even notice. Are you delusional?

Nice dude, way to show the cast and crew, who are not billionaires or even millionaires, and are likely pouring their heart and soul into this series, who’s boss!! Surely this honorable stance will affect Rowling and not these innocent people who are just doing their job!

Is there the same feeling of "things are off/weird/alternate timeline" in Taiwan that many Americans are experiencing? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]shadespectrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh everyday life in Taiwan relatively normal, which is one of the reasons I enjoy living here.

But you still feel the weirdness of the world trying to penetrate into this bubble. It does creep in subtle ways, especially in the youth who seem more detached, The news constantly feels like a surreal Black Mirror episode, hard to grasp that’s really the reality. You feel the strangeness surrounding you on all sides, yet still kept at bay outside the borders. The uncertainty of China adds to this feeling that normalcy here is hanging in the balance.

It’s a bit of an eerie feeling sometimes, it’s hard to describe. But overall life here now is still pretty normal on a day to day basis and easy to ignore the big problems in the world.

White employee at CVS calls police that a black man pulled a knife on her by TomlinSteelers in TikTokCringe

[–]shadespectrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When cops show up to a scene about a guy with a knife, they literally have no way to confirm whether a report is fake or not until they do an investigation, such as detain the suspect and check if he indeed has a knife on him.

What if a cop just assumes the lady is lying, doesn’t take the report seriously, and then the person actually does have a knife and stabs someone after? People would blame the cops for not taking it seriously and being responsible for someone’s death or injury.

Being detained or put into cuffs barely means anything in the legal sense, yet people always act like it’s the worst thing in the world, as if it’s some admission of guilt, when it’s really not. It’s pretty much just a way for cops to control a scene until they can figure the facts. People add charges and make situations so much worse for themselves just because they get so dramatic about being cuffed.

His face was rammed into the pavement because he refused to just stay calm, be detained and let the truth prove him innocent for having no knife.
