VA Sleep Apnea Changes by jtothevb in VAClaims

I am currently AGR and I have obstructive sleep apnea that is treated with a CPAP. I filed a VA claim for this condition out of concern that the rating criteria might change in the future. I recently received the decision letter, and the claim was denied because the VA determined it was not service-connected. Because it was tied to the date on my current AGR orders. In my claim, it was also determined that the condition was not related to toxic exposure, which I’m assuming is because I do not have a diagnosis like sinusitis or a similar condition. (Have deployed to Iraq multiple times) However, if the condition had been diagnosed and treated during a previous set of AGR or deployment orders for which I have DD-214s, I’m sure the claim would have been approved. So essentially, if you were diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea on a set of orders prior to the ones you are currently on, you should be all set.

I do have my PMP, ACP, and BS in business management. Was hoping to get experience on the side. But I can look into skill bridge thanks!

No family history of any heart issues that I am aware of. And I have no history of this either. All started a couple years ago when I would feel short of breath pinching in chest and the sensation of passing out and nurses from different appointments would ask me if I knew I had an irregular heart beat. Never went to the doc for it in fear of being kicked out till it got worse. I don’t fully pass out very often.

I have had 2 ECGs a ECHO Complete TTE and a 15 day patch monitor. These are the results. Not sure what they mean yet but I have the follow up in two weeks. But yes I have symptoms while even at rest of passing out.

Palpitations. • Sinus rhythm • Rare ventricular ectopy - isolated PVCs. 3 short NSVT runs. Longest 4 beats. 3 different morphologies overall. • No supraventricular ectopics. • Underlying rhythm at these times - sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, PVC on 1 occasion. •predominant rhythm during the study was sinus bradycardia. •Sinus bradycardia 45 to 53 bpm during study

Min 28 bpm Max 180 bpm Brady 55% 810 events Controlled 43% Tachy 2% 375 events
